Apology

by David Alan Scott Jr.
February 19, 1996

I wanted to draw your picture
But last time I did, it didn't look right

I wanted to write a letter
But last time I did, she never wrote back

I wanted to give you a card
But I did that already

I wanted to take your picture
But I've taken it too many times before

I wanted to give you a hug
But I never can do it right

I wanted to give you a kiss
But what's too much
Or too little?
Not you

All in all, it's all I can give
To say I'm sorry
Keep my distance
And shut up.

PUBLICATION: The Crier, Vol. 33, No. 12, April 19, 1996, Corning Community College.

HISTORY: Throughout the year, I had been accidentally saying things that pissed off a good friend of mine. This poem was written with that friend in mind.
That same month it was printed, Heather (one of my co-stars in "Another Opening, Another Show") complimented me on the poem and said it almost made her cry.
