PLOT: Various plots, all from comedy and drama programs originally broadcast over radio in the 1930's-1950's.
HISTORY: Not long after the previous year's radio show, director Gary Yoggy was already planning for next year, with segments including "Captain Midnight" and "Vic and Sade". By December 2008, however, he was so underwhelmed by the available scripts that he decided to do "Popeye" and "Johnny Dollar" instead (but keeping "Poirot" and "Father").
When it came to casting "Popeye", Gary was interested in hearing me try out for the title role, though neither of us had heard me attempt such a voice. Apparently, watching "Popeye" on TV for years had paid off, because my audition earned me the part, and the audiences were notably impressed.
A true highlight of the weekend was meeting Paul Petersen, and the stories that he had about his days as a Mouseketeer, "Donna Reed" cast member, recording artist, author, and activist for the rights of child actors (via his group A Minor Consideration). To top it off, my wife Cindy got to act alongside him in "Hercule Poirot".
