I have a paper heart
That beats inside of me
It crinkles, folds, and rips
And never lets me breathe
It crinkles in my mind
And folds within my soul
It rips itself in two
So never am I whole
It crinkles all my thoughts
And folds into my fears
It rips beneath my eyes
And hides beneath my tears
It crinkles up my words
It folds my joy below
It rips my life in half
So never may I know
I give my paper heart
To you with mending hands
Please take this paper heart of mine
And make it real again.
