Say Hello

by R.J. Sadbac
January 1, 1998

Though I don't know where I will go,
I know that I must leave
Although I know this as my home,
There's nothing here for me

And as I stand on my two sides,
I understand what's wrong
Although inside I'd like to stay,
I know I don't belong

This town has thrown me out of bounds
And seen me land in flames
What fools return their burning torch
To where it always rains?

So with the sun in front of me,
I leave them all behind
It's time today I learn to say
Hello to these good-byes.

PUBLICATION: The Crier, Vol. 35, No. 8, May 4, 1998, Corning Community College.

HISTORY: Also to be known as my last "R.J. Sadbac" poem for the CCC newspaper, this writing was a reflection on my experiences in Corning. It was built around the sinking feeling that although I loved living in Corning, the town didn't seem to have much use for me. By writing this poem, I was telling myself to let go and move on.
Published alongside this poem was "And So It Goes", which I had written under a similar theme.
