There's nothing so wrong with hating yourself
When someone is there to tell you you're wrong
There's nothing so wrong with loving yourself
When someone is there to tell you you're right
There's nothing so wrong with being yourself
When someone is there to say it's not wrong
There's nothing so wrong with changing yourself
When being yourself can make nothing all right
There's nohting so bad as showing yourself
When no one is there to like what they see
There's nothing as bad as speaking your mind
When no one is there to care what you say
There's nothing as bad as sending your words
When nobody cares to send their words back
There's nothing so wrong as giving yourself
When no one is there to take you away
There's nothing so wrong with sharing your love
With someone like me who'd share anything
There's nothing so wrong with singing your love
With someone like me who'd take any song
There's nothing so wrong with holding the hand
Of someone like me who'd keep it so warm
There's nothing so wrong with being in love
With someone like me who needs to be wrong.
PUBLICATION: Vortex, mid-June 1995, East High School
HISTORY: A retort to those who insist that the key to getting by
in high school is to "be yourself."
The statement here is, basically, "If I'm not happy with
being myself, then what's wrong with changing my image?"
And, of course, there's that "I want love" theme that has been
the impetus of most of my written work.
