1. As a child, Bjork brought herself up, in a sense. For instance, if she wanted to wear a pink paper dress she made herself, it was fine. If she wanted to go two days without eating, it was fine. Says Bjork, "It was the best childhood you could imagine."
2. Because Iceland is a very safe country, she took the bus by herself at age five.
3. Because she was"raised by hippies", she listened to Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin.
4. She used to design her own clothes.
5. She buys the same type of clothes she did when she was a kid.
6. She finds it "very boring to be stylish."
7. When a 75-year-old woman saw Bjork's former band, Kukl, on TV, she had a heart attack.
8. While with the Sugarcubes, she hated touring. Now she loves it.
9. She has a compass tattoo on her arm, which she got when she was 16, that's from a 1,500-year-old ruin from Viking mythology.
10. She put out her first album at age 12.
11. Last year, a crazed fan sent Bjork a mail bomb, then comitted suicide(no one was hurt by the bomb).
12. Björk has been awarded the Knights Cross medal of honour by the President of Iceland Olafur Ragnar Grímsson. The Award was issued on April 24th, 1997, Iceland's first day of summer holiday.
13. The name Björk is an old norse word for "birch," a tree that was sacred to ancient Europeans.
14. Björk is pronounced "bee-ork". It's "bee-irk". It doesn't rhyme with "pork", it rhymes with "jerk". (That o with the two little dots above it isn't just there to look cool, y'know.)
15. In school, she always had crushes on the "boys in the back of the classroom with really thick glasses and the bug collections".
