So what's up with the band lately?
We're fine, thanks. The line-up has changed again. Rich was kicked out and we had Gordon (our former bassist) play guitar in his place. Floyd is our new bass player. Then Jason quit, and our new drummer is Tim.
Vortex: What was the last book you read?
Nothing now. The last book I read was "In Defense of Mumia". About Mumia Abu Jamal's plight against receiving the death penalty for a crime that he did not commit.
Vortex: What's your ideal political system?
My ideal political system is the absence of a political system. I am an anarchist, but an individual anarchist, as I don't believe a harmonious anarchist society is possible at this point.
Vortex: What's 'No Drive' about?
"No Drive" refers to a point in my life last summer, when I felt miserable and unproductive. Every detail of that story is autobiographical.
Vortex: What's your greatest ambition?
My greatest ambition is finding my greatest ambition.
Vortex: What are your opinions on the internet?
I think the internet has made us lazy. There's nothing wrong with being able to obtain information more efficiently, or communicate faster…..but when people are able to read the newspaper everyday on their computer, work from home on their computer, order meals from local restaurants on their computer, and visit their friends or their family on their computer, we've got a problem. There's no need to leave home.
Vortex: What do you do outside Culture?
Floyd works at a local pizzeria. Gordon works at a women's clothing store. I just walk around and paint. Tim and Steve don't work either. Gordon's really into bike riding, he's got the helmets and gloves and funny little shoes. The whole deal. Floyd listens to a lot of pop-punk, and I love the Pixies. We're pretty boring people, I guess.
Vortex: Do you believe in any religion?
No. I'm atheist.
Vortex: Any interesting/ funny stories on the road?
Nothing specifically stands out. Our whole European tour with Kindred was a joke.
Vortex: What do you care about?
Love and social injustice.
Any last words?
Thanks, Andy for the interview.
