SSML-108, 19 December 1999
Hi all,
Wonderful news again this time, with Siobhan deciding to release the
album in some form, due to the fantastic response it's had from us all.
Details from John Jennings below, and more details to follow...
Also, Marcy's amazing performance at the Kashmir Klub earlier this year is
now available for your viewing and listening pleasure in the archives of
the KK website. Details below...
This will probably be the last issue before Christmas, so very best wishes
of the season to you all, whether it be Christmas, Hannukah, Lebaran, or
something else you celebrate (perhaps just celebrating having some time
off!), and I'll see you all again in 2000!
Cheers,
Mike.

Hi there, I recently bought a book from amazon.co.uk titled "Hormonally
Yours" about Shakespears Sister. I originally thought it was going to be a
biography of sorts, but its actually a songbook. Anyway, there's credits to
all the songwriters for each individual song, and I found something
interesting. I had already heard that Dave Stewart had worked on several of
Shakespears Sister's songs, and it is noted in the credits, however what I
found odd was that his place is inserted everywhere that Manu Guiot's name
should be. In the CD booklet for "Hormonally Yours", Guiot is credited for
co-writing "Goodbye Cruel World", "Stay", "Black Sky", and "Hello (Turn Your
Radio On)". In the songbook I have, Dave Stewart is credited in his place
for these songs. Do you think its possible that to appear not to be involved
Dave Stewart (or Siobhan, or the record company or someone) had Guiot's name
put in his place?
Another interesting thing I found is that all the songwriters were credited
with "words and music" except for "Stay" which credited Siobhan and Dave with
lyrics and music, with Marcy only being credited for co-writing music.
Any thoughts on this? >>
I am sorry that I am behind in my replies. I went to London for the last
three Eurythmics concerts and struggling to catch up with life, e mail and
Christmas shopping.
I have always believed that Dave was very much involved in the wiring--booth
lyrically and music of STAY. I am not quite as sure on the others. Maybe he
choose to limit his name from Siobhan work so it wouldn't look like she was
riding on his coattails. Which she certainly was not... But many critics
would cry "nepotism."
I don't know. It's one of those mysteries of Dave. He has admitted that he
and Annie have often switched the order of their names on song credits to
confuse people on whom did what on each a particular song.
Just a thought. Or two.

Hi, yes they did release the Sacred Heart video like HY. I saw it on
eBay a while back. That particular copy is probably sold by now, but
keep checking eBay. One thing though, is for SS, you must do two
searches to find everything, first under Shakespear's Sister WITH the ',
then again under Shakespears Sister, WITHOUT the '. You get matches for
both. Good luck with finding your video. :-)

I've heard on many occasions that Manu Guiot is a alias for Dave
Stewart. I read somewhere (I think it was in a Face interview with
Siobhan around the time "Break My Heart" came out) that London Records
were upset that Dave Stewart wasn't as involved with Sacred Heart as
they'd hoped. Dave seemed to be involved the most around Hormonally
Yours, remixing Hello as well as playing guitar on Hot Love from their
live shows. Quite a thrill to witness that one unfold. As for the tracks
from the third album. It seems to be mainly Siobhan and Ex-Bluebell
Robert Hodgens with Sophie Muller as well. Though Dave does appear on
some tracks. Her best work by far! I heard Annie Lennox was in the Your
History video on V-H1 around the time they were playing it. As for
Little Bird, Those weren't all drag queens. Some were, some weren't and
given Siobhans close friendship with Sophie who directed both videos
well....I could be wrong though...Too bad that video was left off the
last Annie video collections.

Okay, Some answers from someone who has liked Stewart and Lennox since they
were in "The Tourists."
1.) Manu Guiot is a real person. He worked with Annie and Dave for years. I
could point him out in a photo. In fact, he is in the video for "Sexcrime."
He is the other guy at the control panals with Dave. Check it out. It is on
their greatest hits video hit collection. It is a GREAT song and video.
2.) Annie was NOT in the video of "You're History."
3.) There is only one female in the many incarantions of Annie in "Little
Bird." (Except, of course, for the very pregnant Annie.) That woman was the
one who wore the costume from the "Why?" video. The rest WERE drag queens.
Including the little sprite who wore the "Revenge" costume. There are NO ifs
and or buts on this one.

Wow that's impressive...of course when The Tourists were around, I think
I had just turned eight. I'm not that much of a Eurythmics fan (aside
from Annie's solo work with The Blue Nile...What is it with all of these
amazing "Blue" bands???...The Blue Nile..Deacon Blue)
so I just judge these things based on Shakespear's Sister. I could see
how a Eurythmics fan could get into Sacred Heart with all of the various
Eurythmics people present and all. As far as Dave Stewart goes well...I
liked Vegas!
> 1.) Manu Guiot is a real person. He worked with Annie and Dave for

Well then I stand corrected, however let me make the point that the
"Hormonally Yours" Songbook isn't the only instance where those two
names seem to be interchanged.
2.) Annie was NOT in the viideo of "You're History."
Someone should tell that to VH-1 then.

Which video was that from? I thought I'd seen all of the videos from
"Revenge", and I don't recall Annie dressed that way, at least the ones
they played on MTV at the time.

Hi all;
This is from the great article on Neil's site, at this
address (forgive me Neil for stealing off you :)
http://www.neilnet.force9.co.uk/ssface.htm
When their first LP "Sacred Heart" came out, the
cynics scanned the sleeve for any indications that
Dave Stewart was shepherding his wife's new career.
They looked in vain, both there and in the credits of
"Hormonally Yours". While Siobhan and Marcy kept
silent, others made much of this. In February, as
"Stay" began its eight weeks at number one, theMail On
Sunday ran a piece proudly proclaiming "Inspiration Of
Two Women Who Are Calling The Tune 'In A Man's
World'": For Siobhan and Marcella, success is sweeter
still because it is all their own work. And Dave
Stewart had nothing to do with it."
The thing is, this simply wasn't true. The writing
credit for "stay" is "Fahey/Detroit/Guiot". "Guiot",
also credited on three other songs, is a pseudonymn
used by Dave Stewart.
When I bring this up, Siobhan is not fazed at all. "I
used to go to Marcy's house to write," she explains,
"and after a couple of weeks Dave drove me over and
one day he stayed for about half an hour and said 'Why
don't you do a song that will really highlight Marcy's
voice? How about this?' and started bashing out some
chords on an acoustic guitar and humming a tune. He's
like a whirlwind - the same half hour he bashed out a
few chords for 'Hello...'."
This, she says, is hardly his first involvement.
"With 'Sacred Heart' I knew it was really important to
play down any involvement. I wrote and produced it
with Richard Feldman and Marcy, but Dave lives with me
and he's a very, very powerful, creative force. If I'd
have credited him with everything he did on that
album, everybody would have said I was his
puppet.".....
.....The name Guiot, incidentally, is borrowed from an
engineer friend of their's called Manu Guiot who works
in a Paris recording studio. Since "Stay" reached
number one, his phone hasn't stopped ringing, callers
gushing "You co-wrote that song! Wow! You must be
making lots..."
Peace on Earth;
M

Are you referring to the first album she redid when she met up with Marcy,
or is there another missing album floating around? Have any tracks
survived from pre-Marcy days?
Fantastic about the current album coming out!
