SSML-111, 13 February 2000

Hi all,

I'm not sure if I mentioned this earlier, but the male voice on the
re-recorded version of "Do I Scare You" has been identified as that
of Billy Mackenzie by his fans. Billy was perhaps better known as the lead
singer of the Associates. On a depressing note, this track must
have been recorded just prior to January 1997, the month when he
committed suicide, and it was one of his very last vocal contributions.

 Details at: http://www.algonet.se/~jonwar/associates.html

On a brighter note, John Jennings has created an easy way for everyone
to write to Siobhan. Details below!

Also, Marcy has been spotted gigging around London again. Check our her
website!

 Mike.

Hi there, I've recently heard the Shakespears Sister b-side track
 "Pretty Boy". I love it!
Is it a Shakespears Sister original or a remake? If it is a
remake, anyone know who it was by?

"Pretty Boy" was written by Marcella and Siobhan and produced by Richard
Feldman. It is available only on promo 12" copies of Break My Heart.
Someone recently asked about how successful Hormonally Yours was. In the
UK, I am pretty sure it went platinum. What I know for sure is that it
debuted/peaked at number 3 in the Album charts. As for Sacred Heart, it
peaked at number 9 in the UK charts. So both albums went top 10 in the
UK.

Subject: [siobhan] Hello Black Sky

Hi friends;

I was just wondering if there as an article or
interview in which Siobhan or Marcy, or Sophie Muller
for that matter, ever went on record as for what the
video for Hello was based on. I remember the first
time I ever saw it, being very startled by how they
made Siobhan up in that vid. The more look at it the
more amazed I am by how they were able to get such an
"elderly" effect with very little makeup effects at
all. I really love that vid now; I used Shuv's
incarnation as a model for some Buffy fanfic I wrote.
Does anyone know if anything was ever said about this
video by the girls?

Also wondering if I'm the only one who's ever spliced
a recording of Black Sky backwards just to hear
Marcy's backward singing on it. That's always fun. :)

Obsessively Yours,
Melanie

Really!? I thought she was reading poetry. What does she say?

I don't know how the UK CDs are, but in the US tape
and CD liner notes the last lyric for Black Sky is,
"I ain't gonna sing that devil sh**" (expletive
deleted :). When I saw that I was like, "Where's
that line? I don't hear it...." and then I realized
that Marcy was actually singing backwards during the
piano interlude in the middle. I taped the song onto
a blank tape, yanked out the tape, cut it and spliced
it back in backwards (with the inside facing out) and
voila, you can hear Marcy singing it very distinctly.
(Ever want to creep yourself out real good, listen to
the rest of that album backward, BRRRR!!! :) I
thought it was a very funny and very clever thing to
do, have a backward message slamming the devil. Hee
hee!!
Yours,
Melanie

Hey Gang,

Does Marcy actually sing any words in the backwards passage? The
vocals have always intrigued me. Black Sky is one of my
 favorites.
 What's new with everyone??

Subject: [siobhan] The Mailing list...

Hi Everyone,

I know this is a bit elitist (sorry to everyone who
lives abroad and cannot travel), but I was thinking
that it would be nice if all those on the mailing list
in the UK were to meet up somewhere. That way we can
all put faces to names, find out what peoples other
interests and hobbies are, maybe come up with some
great ideas to help along with the release of the
third album etc, and really appreciate the diversity
of this group. Surely it is strange that people from
all walks of life, different ages, careers,
backgrounds and so on can be influenced by one woman
in such a way as we are, and I think that to meet up
with like-minded people would be great for the mailing
list. Not only that, it could simply be a lot of fun,
meeting new people, socialising with strangers
etc...who knows what could happen?

I hope everyone will give this some consideration and
some feedback...

Liam

Liam,

I think that's a wonderful idea!! And I'm jealous that, being in America, I'd be left out. If you fans in the UK do get together, would you promise to keep those of us who were unable to attend informed of your plans and activities??
How many fans in America would like to meet?
I'd love to hear from you...

Subject: [siobhan] Contacting Siobhan.

Hey everyone, i hope you are all well.
Anyway, i had a brainwave about contacting shuv. I have set up a form on
my website which redirects to an e-mail account i have set up for her.
You can send messsages to her whenever you want and she (might) reply to
some of them when she gets time. The form is on my website at
http://www.ilonline.co.uk/artists/shakespear/, follow the no frames or
frames link (whatever your preference), then click on the pic of shuv,
then the image representing the third album. From that page there is a
link that says 'e-mail siobhan'. You can try to use the address
siobhan@jengs.force9.co.uk rather than using the form if you want, but
i've had reports that this doesn't currently work so the form is
probably the best bet.
Regards,
John =)
