My all time fave video has to be Goodbye Cruel World.Marcy never looked more
gorgeoous than in this clip and the little monologue at the begining is
priceless, perfection from start to finsh.
Sacred Heart
You're History: The black hair and silver contacts, absolutely stunning!
Break My Heart: More fabulous hair and make-up. What a cute hat!!
Hormonally Yours
Goodbye Cruel World: See above:
Catwoman: The image quality is a bit shoddy ( you
think it's that way on purpose? ) but it conveys all their energy on
stage, great clip!
Special mention must go to the live clip of Heroine as well. I love all the
energy and emotion that clip displays, Shuv looks like she's giving it all
she's got.
Never has one so pretty been so
menacing...............................................................

Here's what I remember: Summer of 92, all summer they were playing this song
on the radio that I dismissed as a ballad by EnVogue or someone. (I'm
sorry, but I'd hear the first five seconds, get bored, and spin the dial.
I'm sorry!! I was dumb! Kick me!!) OK. So finally along about August I
saw the Stay video on TV (not MTV, which I've never had. I'm a geek.) Long
story short, I was blown away by the video and recognized it as the song
that was getting all this airplay, and I was very surprised that it was the
same song. The next day I listened to it all the way through and saw the
light, so to speak. :) That was August. Around Halloween was the first
time heard I Don't Care on the radio (the radio edit, though they chopped
out Shuv's rap in the middle) and it was played maybe five times that fall.
And that was it. Again, we didn't have MTV so I have no idea how may times
they played which videos, though Stay probably got played a lot. (My local
cable company gave us MTV2 last summer for a week free, and they ran Stay
one night, I couldn't believe it!! Still going!!) Also I live in Michigan
which is hardly the center for cutting edge radio, so if you wanted a more
accurate report of how Sister's songs did here you'd have to talk to someone
from LA or New York. :-)

Here they are. They're extracted from the poem "Hornpipe" by Edith
Sitwell. There was a bit of legal difficulty a few years ago, with Edith's
estate complaining that permission hadn't been sought to use the poem in a
song....

In the US:
Stay entered the Hot 100 on 7/4/92 and hit #4. (a two month gap between
releasing a single and a single charting is not unusual in the US especially
when it is a new artist)
their only other entry was I Don't Care which hit #55
In the UK:
1. You're History (29 Jul 89) hit #7
2. Run Silent (14 Oct 89) hit #54
3. Dirty Mind (10 Mar 90) hit #71
4. Goodbye Cruel World (12 Oct 91) hit #59
5. Stay (25 Jan 92) hit #1
6. I Don't Care (16 May 92) hit #7
7. Goodbye Cruel World (reissue, 18 Jul 92) hit #32
8. Hello (Turn Your Radio On) (7 Nov 92) hit #14
9. My 16th Apology (EP) (27 Feb 93) hit #61

Subject: [siobhan] Party in the Atlanta area ... list members invited
(slightly off-topic)
I'm thinking of having a houseparty at the end of July (29th? ... if
not, then early August) and I was wondering if any fans/folks on the
list would be interested in attending? It will be casual, yet tasteful
(in other words: act a fool and I'll drop-kick you out the front door
myself!).
Included (other than friends) are people from these mailing lists:
- Pet Shop Boys
- Dead or Alive
- BiNet
- Bananarama
- Boy George
- Swing Out Sister
- Lesbians in Music
- Cher
- Ani DiFranco
- Vacuum
- Army of Lovers
- Minidiscs
- Anastacia (the singer, not the Disney film!)
- Siobhan
- Swenglish
- Jimmy Somerville
- The Young & the Restless
- Techno/Pop
Maybe some others ... anyway, let me know. I'm trying to decide if the
gathering will be large enough to require security!
Should make for an interesting mix of people, eh?
The music will be divine [of course!] and will be programmed on MD by
me! :-)
Yours,
Dicky

I remember that in Australia, Dirty Mind and Run Silent were both minor hits
as well (making the top 40). I remember both got quite a bit of airplay, and
the Sacred Heart album also sold well.

Subject: [siobhan] Bananarama and Shakespears Sister Downloads - Problems
with Downloads
Hi everyone,
A few days ago I posted some links to some Bananarama and
Shakespear's Sister Songs because I wanted to share some of the
remixes I have found on the net, but the site that I uploaded them to
only allowed 10 people to download the songs. I was unaware of this
at the time and thought that it could be unlimited downloads. I have
since started looking for a web storage site where I can place these
tracks where everyone is going to have access to them, (So if anyone
knows of any good ones, please let me know...)
I'm also hoping that once I have found a suitable place so all these
files can be shared that if anyone has something they would like to
contribute, they would be more than welcome to do so. As A Bananarama
and Shakespear's Sister Fan I find it so frustrating being unable to
find good remixes, or even some of their recent songs, which is why I
decided to share what I have (not that it is much), as the saying
goes - Share and Share alike, and then all of us as fans get to have
the songs we want, and it's also good for chatting to other fans on
the net through emails etc.
I have been a huge fan of Bananarama since I was 10 Years old, I'm
now 23, and followed on with Shakespears Sister when Siobhan left the
group, and it just sucks when I try and do searches on them for songs
through various search engines, and absolutely nothing comes up. I'm
sure there are a lot of people who have had the same problem.
To Cut A Long story Short, as soon as I have found somewhere with
lots of space, and where everyone can download the songs and things
they want, I will post the links on the list. I hope I can find
something before the end of the week,
I can't do anything much about the Whalemail files at the moment, but
keeps your eyes posted for a new links posting.
Cheers
John
P.S. Once again I Apologise for the inconvenience to some people not
being able to download the songs.

Hi,
Yesterday I saw a movie with songs by Marcella Detroit and Shakespear's
Sister / Stay. It's about a couple of girls that are killing anyone they
meet. Really an odd and a good one.
I wonder if you can tell me the name of this movie?
Thanks,

Hi,
Someone responded with the film "Heavenly Creatures", starring Kate Winslet.
That's not the movie you're talking about, as HC is set in 1950's New
Zealand.
The film that features "Stay" is "Butterfly Kiss", with Amanda Plummer and
Saskia Reeves. Amanda Plummer's a bisexual murderess, and Saskia Reeves is
the woman who loves her. Hope this helps.
