SSML-128, 26 February 2001
Hello all,
It's been so long since the last collation of e-mails, that's it's all got a bit out of hand! Below is a condensed version of the most important messages from the last 2 and half months. If you want to see each of the messages in all their gory details (including an anonymous person unfairly slagging off Dean's site), you can check out the full contents of issues 126-128 at:
http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Pavilion/3545/ssml
Highlight One: incredible new makeover of Marcy's official site. An absolute must see! The only problem is it takes a 1.28 Mb download for the full site to load, but it's definitely worth the wait. A sneaky tip if you want to play with it off-line: once you've loaded the front page, grab the file mdflash.swf (a Shockwave Flash Object file) out of your web cache, and save it in another folder. Then open the file with your web browser any time you like!
http://www.marcelladetroit.com
Highlight Two: e-mails from Marcy's producer Paula Jones about the site updates!
Highlight Three: tonnes of updates on Dean's site!
http://www.shakespears-sister.com
Highlight Four: Siobhan's track "Was It Something That I Said" used as the theme for a new BBC programme "The Fear"!
Highlight Five: possible new official remix of Hello!
Best wishes,
Mike.

Subject: happy valentine's day from marcy
hello and happy valentine's day from marcy!!....
hope you and yours are well and that you have a wonderful valentine's day
full of goodness, love and lots of chocolate!!!
i just wanted to thank you so much for your support and to let you know
how much i appreciate your interest and belief in what i'm doing.
although we had planned on the new site being fully functioning by
february 14th, we have run into a little teknical snag. But we are burning
the midnight oil to get a preview of the new site up: please try
http://www.marcelladetroit.com and if it's not "AAHHH"
please understand this is not the complete site, but it's looking great
and i wanted to give you a little taste of what's to come.
i've just uploaded a song called, "dancing madly sideways", ( which is
on my "preview" cd and currently the album title), onto mp3.com. i went to
visit the folks there and really like what they do. if you want to hear it
and download it now, just click on the following link:
http://www.mp3.com/marcelladetroit
and click on my name.
once the new site is up and running, a 3 song limited edition cd, which
i'm calling the "preview" to my album will be available. each CD will be
dedicated, signed and numbered personally by moi.
if you want the lyrics to "dancing madly sideways" please email us at
marcyfans@aol.com.
i am going to release a single april 1st called, "lust for like". i
know some of you thought that an album was going to be available feb.14, but
i'm going to release that june 21.(my birthday and midsummer's eve) the
reason?
i need time to make people aware of what I'm doing. and that means word
of mouth, as well as internet and realworld press and promotion. it also
allows me to set up proper distribution worldwide.
the most important thing is getting the word out that my music exists and
that's where i need your help. so, if you go to any newsgroups or ezines,
please spread the word.
also, once the new site is up and running you will be able to download
2 more complete songs from the upcoming album through a special link that we
will send you as a member of our platinum fan club!
and speaking of the fan club, i would love to get your feedback on what
you would expect to receive for being an exclusive member of our platinum fan
club. just email us again at marcyfans@aol.com. i'd love to hear your
suggestions.
i truly appreciate your interest, your support and your patience. i'm
so happy with the record and the new site and i hope you will enjoy it too.
much love all the best wishes to you and yours;
peace always
marcy :-)

Subject: [siobhan] It's so quiet...
Hi everyone,
Boy, it's gone quiet here lately...
1. I LOVE 1982
For those of you who didn't see it, you didn't miss much. Sara, Keren
or Siobhan didn't feature in person. There were plnety of archive TV
clips obviously featuring Siobhan. At least, I guess, they featured
on Prime Time national TV.
2. MARCELLA DETROIT
As some of you may also have done, I recieved an email from Marcy re
her forthcoming album & single. The album will be released in June
(on Marcy's b'day) and the single (next month I think). The single
will be a track which isn't included on the demoz CD - can't remember
the title at the mo.
Her new website looks fantastic. A vast improvement on the last one.
For those of you who haven't had a look lately - do so now. It's not
complete but if it's a guide of what's to come it'll be well worth
waiting for.
3. WORKS OF SHAKESPEARS SISTER
I'm in the process of re-furbishing many of the pages on the site &
adding some new features (pix gallery, lyrics etc) all of which
should be up within the next couple of weeks. There will also be some
new interviews added including a rare one with Clare Kenny. The 1996
Arena interview will also be there (thanks Terminalsinner).
I'm not getting as much time as I'd like to try and finish it (too
much clubbing.. no, I mean too much university work) but it'll be
ready soon.
4. NEW REMIX OF "HELLO" FOR 2001
I recently recieved an email from an "underground psychedelic
Trance scene" group. They want to do an offical remix of Hello and
were seeking contact info on who owned the rights to the song. I told
them all I know so we'll have to wait and see if anything is done.
I'll keep you all posted.
Finally, in a desperate attempt to breath life back into this list:
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE SHAKESPEARS SISTER/SIOBHAN FAHEY PIC?
Cheers,
Dean.

Bravo Dean, it has been quiet here lately! It is impossible to pick an all
time favorite pic, but I have to say I've been getting a huge amount of
mileage from what I like to call the "Sisters in Lace" pic -- it's one of
the ones Marcella featured on her site with the Winter's Tale, and it has
Siobhan done up in the Victorian rags and lace, with huge raccoon eyes,
looking oh-so-cute as she huddles against Marcella, hands together, looking
very sisterly. I know it's not her most glam or sexy pic, but I don't
know... I just love it. :)
And just so I don't get accused of one-sidedness.... my fave Marcy pic is on
Mike's site, I think from the Face article -- she's in white and glaring
straight at the camera with some impressive raccoon eyes of her own.
Woooah!!! :) Go scary girls!

My favourite Siobhan pic is off Mel's site. I think it is a poster.
Siobhan is staring dirctly at the camera and marcy is standing behind

My fave marcy pic is the same as the beautiful mel's rom mike's site.
Everyone must be so exicited that the other half of SS is releasing a new

my fave pic of siobhan? that would have to be the lovely "red" pic from 1996. i know it's just a simple headshot, but i love siobhan's smirk. anybody have a spare of this (full page pic was in top of the pops mag)? i might have something you might want for a trade....

Hi,
Why did Siobhan have a nervous breakdown at the end of SS because she had
even more fame during Bananarama? Do you think she looks at her websites
because if she does , she must know how much we addmire her and marcy's
efforts. Do you think she appreciates all of the support we fans

I wouldn't think it was about the fame, but SS was her "baby". Her way to get
way from the Bananarama's image. With SS she put more of herself out there,
so it was a bigger defeat. Plus she left Bananarama, in 1996 she had just put
in all the work on the new album just to have London Records say see ya, oh
by the way we won't put out your new album.

To be honest, I think Siobhan's efforts to say in touch with fans is
pityful if not embarassing. What.. 2 or 3 letters in over 2 years?
She couldn't even be bothered to reply to emails individually (see
last letter) - at least Marcy does.
The internet provides an ample opportunity to let fans know what's
happening and show her appreciation.
Her fan base is a collective effort by everybody it's a shame she
doesn't recognise it.

I've been a fan of Siobhan since 1982.
Living here in the states, we don't hear all of the things on our celebs
living in England. The tabloid press there makes the US one pale in
comparison on many fronts...
After reading several articles (thanks to other fans across the pound) it is
clear that Siobhan has been struggling with her demons for years, and the
situation after "Hormonally Yours" came out only exacerbated her sense of
alienation and loss of control. fame, money, alcaldes come hard for those
that don't feel worthy of attention at all. having Marcy's voice take over
the sound of the project and make it internationally huge must have been
humiliating for her. She did more than provide the image for the project, but
GOD! What an image!! Those were her brilliant lyrics..And remember, SHE was
Shakespears Sister from the 1st single's release.
The Guardian interview really gave us an errie glimpse at what was to come &
only further my point. Her childhood poverty and years of lonliness at school
only... No wonder many of us were drawn to her music. dark, moody,
sardonic... I miss her and wish I could meet her. I hope she is doing well
and creating again.. I will always be a fan.

>>for those that don't feel worthy of attention at all. having Marcy's voice

If it was so difficult for her to accept the attention and accolades, why
was she so desperate to rid Marcy of any attention at all? I find it so
infuriating that people act as though Marcy contributed NOTHING to SS when,
in fact, she was clearly very integral. It was SIOBHAN who encouraged Marcy
to move to the forefront and reveal herself as a true "member" of SS. The
fact that Siobhan released SACRED HEART with her face on the cover art does
not refute that Marcy contributed a great deal to that album.
Marcy worked with Siobhan and did not ever want Siobhan to relent creative
control of the act. Just because they recorded "Stay" and it achieved
worldwide success does not in any way mean that Marcy "dethroned" Siobhan
and clamored for the control that had been Siobhan's from the very
beginning.
I don't mean to "SHOUT" at you but I do not understand why anyone is a fan
of SS if he/she can't give Marcy her due. That's like following the Beatles
and proclaiming you can't stand Paul McCartney. What's the point? [<~NICK~>]

Greetings fellow fans =)
First, just my 2¢ - I became interested in Shakespears Sister when
I first saw the 'Stay' video on MTV. I must admit I was impressed with
marcy's vocal talents, but what drew me to the band was the Figure of
Death that was Siobhan in that video. Her glowing white face with the
killer smile that just captured my heart - I was a devout SS fan
afterwards. I've picked up Marcy's 'Jewel' CD since the breakup, and
I do like it, but it's just not the same. For me, SS will always mean
Siobhan…
And if you managed to get through that wandering thought… =)
My Napster account is luc1ph3r
Look me up sometime this weekend if you have the opportunity (if
Napster's still around - hehehe), I have the mini-cd of 'I Can
Drive',
'Suddenly' and 'Oh No, It's Michael' (i think that's the song, post a
correction for me if I'm wrong), as well as a live performance CD by
the name of 'Back in your own World'. These are the only things I'm
sharing, so only my fellow fans have to worry about my upload speed.

Hi folks,
Yes imagine my amazement when I heard "Was It Something That I Said"
being used as the theme for a new programme on BBC, here in the UK.
The programme is called "The Fear" and from what I can gather is short
horror stories read by a presenter. I just happen to have the channel
on when I heard the xzylophone tune of WISTIS but I couldn't believe
it actually was (considering I'd had a bit to drink... ;-)). I watched
it to the end when, sure enough in the credits it said:
TITLE MUSIC: SIOBHAN FAHEY.
The version used was an instrumental one but it seemed more polished
than the standard one.
Wow!

How exciting!! Siobhan ought to break into genre TV, she'd be so good at
it, if her work in Pinned is any indication. I can see her guest starring
on one of those spooky shows as someone's mad aunt or an alien abductee.
Maybe the X-Files!!
