Hi everyone,
Here's that "lost" e-mail from Peter (binkyq@interport.net) again, regarding a showing of the video for I Can Drive in a New York club:

Here's a really quick note (since it's 3:30 AM here) to say I just saw the video in my favorite bar. Here's the scoop: Siobhan is NOT blonde. It's hard to say what color her hair really is because it was all shot with a green filter, but it looks pretty dark. It's very straight and long and parted in the middle. Her make-up is very
minimal, and she looks fabulous! The video itself is actually very dull. It's very "alternative" a la Garbage/Sponge/Filter. Just the band performing/ her singing/ lots of jump cuts /bright lighting but with dark filters. I don't know if it's a Sophie Muller or not. I'm very disappointed if it was her handiwork since she usually does much more interesting things.

I'm glad to see the single doing fairly well so far. I can't believe Smash Hits gave it zero stars--those motherfuckers. I think it's a great song. I really like it and listen to it faithfully. I await those remixes Peter mentioned even if they are a bit poor
as he said. As for the lyrics, maybe that is assuming too much by reading into it. The lyrics by the way are "Your 15 minutes start right here"--not "stopped right here" as written. They are inside the CD sleeve by the way. I don't want to make any intellectual interpretation, however, I find the lyrics very interesting nevertheless. My favorite line is "I can take you for a ride anytime". Don't laugh but I thought the song was about a former prostitute who in retrospect is talking about the men she "took for a ride". Of course men pick up women in their shiny cars, take them out for dinner, etc; but she really took them for a "ride"--took those boys' money ("it's a steal"--easy money essentially). Now she realizes that she's worth more than sixty pence, has declared a "new" innocence. She has a shiny new car (presumably with the money she got from her former tricks) and she can pass by her old world (where others have died/moved away/are in recovery) and move onto bluer skies. She's in control now, she can drive, and make it on her own. She's a spaced out individual, a "sinner", but essentially she is "real"--and that what people perceived her as is the "unreal"--she
took us all "for a ride".
Denny PS Weird eh?

I have checked the UK "Observer" newspaper for the 19th May, in which a SS interview apparently appeared, but unfortunately it seems to have been in the paper's "Preview" magazine, which is a supplement not shipped overseas, or not the library at my uni. anyway. Phooey! Mike.
