I checked out Marcy's site. [http://www.marcelladetroit.com] It is fairly plain at the
moment but I'm sure it will evolve considerably. One problem is that her e-mail
address (detroit@atlas.co.uk) does not work, as I tried to send a message and got a
"DNS not here" kind of message. I hope she puts some pictures of herself on the site
as I have found very, very few of her.

Subject: ss - Marcy Attacks

I've noticed a lot of Marcy bashing on both the Bananarama and Shakespears Sister
list I feel I have to respond.

Much as I love Siobhan (my FAV 'rama girl of all time.)... Marcella Detroit, AKA
Marcy Levy, has been a respected songwriter/musician/singer for many years. She did
not use Siobhan Fahey as a wedge to get into the music business. She WAS
somewhere long before SS.
She's been writing songs for, and performing with people like Eric Clapton for
ages. She co-wrote "Lay Down Sally" with him. (Not that I like Eric Clapton, but he
does have a pretty secure place in the industry.) I know she also worked with Robin
Gibb. > As far as I know both Jewel and her first solo album did badly, but her other
musical collaborations have been extremely successful. Her new single (I Hate You
Now) is brilliant, and you can really hear her part of the SS sound in it. I'm sorry to
go off like that, but I really think Marcy deserves her fair share of recognition both for
her work with SS as well as her work before.

>Peter (the first one)
>>PS. I've also seen an interview with her about the breakup of SS, and she was very
gracious about the whole thing. She mentioned how she found out that she was out of
the band during Siobhan speech on that award show, but she didn't sound overly bitter
about it, just a little disappointed.

The following is from Dominator's chart review [available at
http://www.demon.co.uk/pastel/]: 30 NEW ENTRY : Shakespear's Sister - I Can
Drive *

Just when you thought Shakespear's Sister was over after the departure of co-vocalist
Marcella Detroit, Mrs Dave Stewart, Siobhan Fahey, is back better than ever with a
song that's only slightly not as weird as most of their offerings, but excellent all the
same.

However, superb that it is, if it's only made No.30 on the first week out, I don't hold
out much hope for it doing better.

This week it has dropped back to #50.....:-(

For those of us holding out for local release, the lack of sustained chart success is bad
news. But who can predict how record companies are going to act? Polygram
Australia know that people are interested in SS, as I have rung them several times. I
have received a UK press release for I Can Drive, which I'll type out in full for the
next mailout.

 Mike.
