Hi everyone,

I came across a website with a review of the SS single "I Can Drive", as well as a
personal review of the T In The Park concert.

"I Can Drive" by Shakespear's Sister

It must be glam week...This lot don't have too much credibility, but I like 'em. This is
familiar territory for SS - minus Marcella Detroit now, unfortunately. This is less
Goth-tinged than previous outings by the band, having a much trippier, glam feel that
appeals to me, Siobhan Fahey's voice being particularly suited to this style of music.
The lyrics are a bit cliched perhaps, but then this isn't pretending to be deep and
thought-provoking. "Suddenly", on the b-side is another gleeful glam stomp which
does the band credit.

T In The Park
Sunday 14th July

The second day of the festival and the weather had improved; the sun was out and it
was already pretty warm. Arriving in Hamilton once again, I found it overrun with
groups of festival-goers in search of breakfast - the local McDonald's must have had
its best Sunday morning takings ever.
Being a little early, I had to join a large queue to get into the site, but this was good-
natured and, relatively orderly. Once inside, I made for the Main Stage and sat down
on the grass (I had only just realised that I spent the whole of yesterday on my feet -
my back felt as though a couple of vertebrae had been surgically removed during the
night).
Even at this early stage of the day, the festival site began to fill up, and the grassy
field now had its fair share of dusty bald spots, bringing back thoughts of last year's
heatwave dust-storm hell. However, at the moment, the crowd was sufficiently small
and the dust remained settled, so I just sat back and waited for the first band of the day
to appear.....
 .....(several bands later...):

Shakespear's Sister

I'm always in two minds about Shakespear's Sister, depending on what mood I'm in. If
I'm feeling charitable, I quite enjoy their camp theatrical goth/rock. If I'm not, I dislike
them for being unoriginal, contrived and having association with Dave Stewart. Today
was a day edging more towards the former, and I watched them from afar for about 20
minutes, witnessing a tiny long-haired figure on the main stage (presumably Siobhan
Fahey, but could have easily been Alanis Morissette or Dave Grohl from the distance
I watched them), belting out decent enough versions of "I Can Drive" and "Hello".
The crowd towards the front of the stage appeared to be enjoying themselves, but the
biggest cheer that Shakespear's Sister received was when they launched into a version
of Bananarama's "Venus". Which must tell us something...
Mildly diverting.

Subject: The singles!

I finally got a hold of the SS and MD singles. My opinions:

"I Can Drive" is good, but hardly a smart choice for a single. "Oh No, It's Michael" is
not the best, but I'll give a few more listens before I decide. "Suddenly" is really good
and could have been a better single. It's a bit too repetitive though, which means it
may get tiring really quick.

"I Hate You Now" is great! It's also not very radio friendly though. I think the B-side
"Boy" is even better - it could definitely take off on radio if given the proper push!

Overall I was more pleased with the Marcy recordings than the new SS. I only hope
the rest of the SS album is better. Melodically SS was best with Hormonally Yours.

I want to say that I don't think "I Hate You Now" is about Siobhan. If Marcy wanted
to say something against Siobhan, she would have done so with her first solo record,
no?

That's my useless opinion anyway.
