SSML-49, 30 January 1997

Hi all,

Marcy's single "Boy" has been released in Australia, and the video (if there was one) will hopefully be played this weekend on the clip shows here. If it does, I'll describe it for you.

Here are some reviews for the single from local newspapers:

InPress 29 Jan 1997:
Before Ms Detroit made her way to temporary fame in Shakespear's Sister, she was known as Marcy Levy, backing vocalist to the likes of Eric Clapton during the 70s. This latest solo effort could well have been dug up from a 20-year old time capsule; all the ingredients are in place, but the song meanders aimlessly in search of a tune. Nikka Costa [Melbourne club/pub singer] does this better, and she wasn't even there at the time. (by Anthony Horan)

Beat 29 Jan 1997:
The weird American who used to be in Shakespears Sister got the MOR out of her system and has since been going into a far more interesting field. This psychedelic funk/rock thing has a cool chorus and a snowflake's chance in hell of charting. (by ?)

There is movie in production called "SHAKESPEARE'S SISTER" with details as follows:
Cast: Kenneth Branagh, Blythe Danner, Neil Patrick Harris, William Hurt, Madeleine Stowe Director: Lesli Glatter "SHAKESPEARE'S SISTER is a highly evocative drama that tells the story of an unconventional woman, who makes a decision that not only changes her destiny, but irrevocably alters the fate of three men who risk everything for her."

        Mike.

p.s. If anyone's missing "Sacred Heart" on CD, I can pick one up 2nd hand for about US$10. Take note of Grant Mitchell's offer below as well.

Subject: Goodbye Cruel World - Acoustic

 > I also saw about 2 months ago a Shakespears Sister Unplugged on MTV-
 > It was 'Goodbye Cruel World' acoustic- they were fantastic. Does anyone
 > know if they did an entire unplugged set or just GCW.

I remember that Shakespears Sister was in MTV's "Most Wanted" show sometimes during summer'92. Most groups that are guests at "Most Wanted" are interviewed and play a couple of acoustic songs. One song they played must have been "Stay" and the other one was probably "Goodbye Cruel World", as it was released in that period. Unfortunately I did not see this, because when "GCW" came out I was only beginning to be a SS fan. So I only heard a VJ announcing that they would be there.

In 1994 Marcy was also a guest at "Most Wanted". She played acoustic versions of "I Believe" and "Detroit"... great !!!!!!!!!!

Shakespears Sister was in an Italian weekly show called "Hotel Babylon" in June 1996 and performed "I Can Drive". I know because my friend told me the day after ... I almost killed him !!!
The show was broadcast again in August, but I watched it the wrong week (the week after), due to a print mistake on the TV-magazine. **##**??!!!!!!!

In summer 1995 Bananarama was in a 3-part Italian show. In the first part they were part of the jury and had to vote for the performances of the contestants (and I missed it), while in the second part ... they performed "Every Shade Of Blue (Radio Edit Vox Hi)" (and I DIDN'T miss it) ... brilliant !!!!! In the third part they weren't there any longer.

OK, that's all. Best Wishes to everyone !!
MAX

Has anyone ever noticed that the photographer for the cover of the 'Run Silent' single is called 'Eddie Monsoon', ala' Absolutely Fabulous. What a>bizarre coincidence. I know Siobhan and Jennifer have known each other through the years, maybe some connection.

PS. I still have copies of the non-released 'Somebody's Mother', as well as 'I hate you now', 'Dirty Mind(90)', and 'Preacher Man(Shep), for trade.
