SSML-6, 12 April 1996

Hi everyone,
I have e-mailed Paul Oakenfold at Perfecto Records, trying
to find out any information on the remix work he did on the new
SS single: title; is it just Siobhan on vocals etc. etc. If I
get a reply I'll forward it on straight away.

Heaps this time from new subscriber Denny Garbuio; and a
"lost" letter from Jennifer (Sorry J!). We're up to 13
subscribers now! Early next week I'll forward on a "complete"
discography (special thanks to Peter Eatroff).

 Mike.

[Jennifer reports that Boy George makes several references to
Siobhan in his autobiography "Take It Like A Man"]

Interesting to read this. I have always found it
appropriate to compare Siobhan with the recently reinvented Boy
George. They are true examples of "Glam Rock" at its best. She is
the epitomy of everything Bananarama is not--raw, fucked, and
fabulous! I love the way she is able to maintain as successful
career while looking absolutely drab in interviews and absolutely
fucked on heroin on stage. She is fab!

And yes, although Marcella's album was dry in comparison to
her work with SS, it was a beautiful piece of work. Definitely
aimed at a different audience which is probably why it failed as
it did.
	Take care, Denny

Well, ya know I have always thought of SS as a joint
project--and it worked really well. Too well in fact. I hope
Siobhan's solo effort can make justice to the previous efforts.
Marcella was integral to SS, and her voice helped define who they
were. If not for her, Stay would not have been such a smash for
the group. I wish they would collaborate again, although Marcella
said they were like a bad marriage (in fact it was a pre-
arranged marriage!) that could not survive. So sad really, I
think I'm going to cry....

The Marcella info forgets to mention "Perfect World" which
was remixed for release in the UK. It, along with Nothing But The
Real Thing (with Elton John), were both sold as 2-set cd packs. I
have all of them as well as the SS. And I prefer the spelling
without the (') as Siobhan said once in an interview: her friend
had misspelled Shakespear initially when creating the cutout
artwork featured on the first single and that she intended to
keep it that way because it was more original. Then when the
apostrophe disappeared she said it made the name even more
original!

That's my 10 cents in.

The "Stay" video was not based on "Catwomen From the Moon"-
-only inspired in part by it. The girls had decided that rather
than do a second album they would release a video/movie featuring
"Catwoman", "Moonchild", "Stay", and one other (I forget!). It
was supposed to be in 3D and the women got the idea after Dave
Stewart introduced the two to the film. The record company did
nix the idea, saying it was too expensive a risk. Too bad.

My interpretation of Stay is that yes indeed, Siobhan seems
to say "Shit, have 'im if ya want. But he's mine later!" So in
effect, she really does win, as the guy has to die sometime!

Siobhan looks fabulous no matter how you look at her. Of
course the early Bananarama vids leave something to be desired,
but hell when you're first starting out and have little cash
flow, you bleach your hair yourself! Yes, it was a disaster in
Really Saying Something, and Shy Boy, etc. but look at Sarah's
hair-
-it is fried city!

At any rate, I was aware Siobhan was working on SS after
leaving Bananarama and saw some new promo pics of her in the UK
Smash Hits magazine. The new look was a shock! I didn't know what
to make of it. She mentioned the first thing she did after
leaving the group was to dye her hair black to rid herself of her
bubblegum image. Interesting nonetheless. I love it nowadays.

The long-awaited single "Break My Heart" was a confusing
first listen. My brother thought it was Grace Jones singing with
Siobhan doing the chorus! Of course we soon learned it was
Marcella doing the high-
pitched squeals and Siobhan will the low growl. The song grew on
me and became an instant hit in the alternative clubs along with
Heroine. I soon picked up the double lp of "Your History" and
"Heroine", and later the Canadian release of "Break My Heart"
containing the Shep Pettibone house mixes which were well
received in the gay discos in Vancouver. It also contains one of
my favorite SS songs "You Made Me Come to This"--which inevitably
would have been a smash hit had it been released.
	Cheers!
	Denny

Are they still stupid?"
-a brilliant line if I do say so myself

Regarding "stay"--i think siobhan was disgusted with the
happy couple and was thus glad to be rid of the man in question.
such a bitchy sense of humor...
