Hi everyone,

I'm testing an automatic distribution list thingy: let's see how it goes!

In what will probably be its last chart appearance, I Can Drive dropped to #191 in the UK singles chart.

w/e July 27th 1996
TW LW WI
191 167 6 Shakespears Sister: I Can Drive

UPDATE!: the next week it dropped to #220, but has magically (suddenly, tragically etc. ;-)) reappeared at
#176 for the week ending 10th August 1996.

176 220 7 30 Shakespears Sister: I Can Drive

By the way, these charts are available each week from:

I know for a fact there was a vinyl release of I Believe with mixes on it cause I saw it! I think there was a
D.O.P. remix on it. I emailed the web site but that issue was not answered. You should do the same. Also
does anyone know there was a dance version of that same song? YEs, a dandy little remake that hit it big in
the gay discos here....

Also the track listing for Perfect World are not listed. There is CD1 and CD2. I have the info on it. I never
could find CD2 for I'm No Angel. I even ordered it but it never came!

I still can't find the new Nana single!!

Details Denny, details! I don't have the Perfect World singles,
so don't know the tracklistings. Please let me know!

The latest word from the London Records A&R department is that the new SS album may not get released
here at all (at least by London Records)! The rep. there said "I'm not sure if we're even releasing that record
here." Is there a contact at the SS fan club who knows more about, possibly, a different US label for SS?

Thanks.

Apologies to Sha Dewa for "stealing" the following message from the Bananarama mailing list:

Subj:	Re: Bananarama Mailing List (29 Jul 1996)
From:	sdewa@chat.carleton.ca (sha dewa)

30th July 1996.

Hello Banana fans,
I know this is the Bananarama mailing list and we are supposed to talk about things concerning
Bananarama. But since Siobhan was a member of the 'Rams, I think it is right that she could be mentioned
in here.
I just picked up the latest copy of the NME (New Musical Express) with the delightful Bjork on
the cover. Inside there were the reviews for the T In The Park Music Festival which took place in Glasgow,
Scotland July 13th and 14th, and which Shakespears Sister had a slot on the latter date.
The review for the festival was positive till it came to the Shakespears Sister slot, where the
journos slagged Siobhan off, claiming that she "screeched her way throughout her set" and she was
"airkissing" (whatever is that??) the (not literally) sick audience throughout her time allotment. The review
on Shakespears Sister was small but very negative, with the journo signing off with "Forget Dave Stewart's
Paradise Syndrome;
this is Pretentious Syndrome". And to think that when "Sacred Heart" came out all the journos were lapping
it up and now they have turned against Siobhan. But maybe that's because most of the acts that were on T
In The Park were all Britpop bands (I think Blur and Elastica were on; can't remember) and the darlings of
American guitar music, like the rather good Foo Fighters. If anyone went to the T In The Park Festival and
saw Shakespears Sister, it would be nice to know your reaction to the whole thing.
This bit is now about Bananarama. Personally, I think Keren and Sarah has lost whatever glitter
they may once had since Siobhan upped and left them. A mate from Ireland came by the other weekend and
brought with him loads of music videos that he videoed off from (satellite - that's BSkyB too) TV and there
were quite a bit of the 'Rams in those videos. The videos for "Robert De Niro's Waiting", "Shy
Boy" and "Na Na Hey Hey" were ace - the girls looked very punkish. The "Wow" videos were good, but I
found them formulaic and the ones after Siobhan left were quite lame, I found, especially "Love, Truth &
Honesty". The "Pop Life" and "Please Yourself" vids were nothing to sneeze at either; "More More More"
was very lame, but not as lame as "Every Shade Of Blue" - that vid looked like it was done for like $5 or
something.
What struck me most about the videos with Siobhan was that in the early videos, she looked like
the leader (just check out "Shy Boy"), with Sarah pushed to the side, I thought. Then the "Venus" video, I
thought Siobhan went a bit mental with her dancing (too much Prozac, maybe) and the "Wow" videos, she
looked very lost and sad, and she looked quite freezed out from Keren and Sarah, who are always
whispering and connecting their heads together without inviting Siobhan. It's clear that those two
disapproved of Siobhan's marriage to Dave Stewart. Now I'm just wondering
if Shakespears Sister will loose its glitter with Marcy gone. I personally found "Suddenly" on the single to
be incredibly bitchy.
Anyway, that's it for now. Sorry if I may have offended anyone on this mailing list over my
personal judgements of the Bananarama videos.

Till next time,
Cheers people.
S.

Hi everyone,

It seems "I Can Drive" just will not die in the UK charts. It has reappeared in the Top 200 this week at
#185, and has now spent a total of 8 weeks in the Top 200 (in a total chart run of 10 weeks).

The Dominator: Dominator's UK Top 40 Chart Analysis (w/e August 24th 1996)
185 206 8 30 Shakespears Sister: I Can Drive

The latest word from the SS fan club is as follows (thanks to Janine and Lisa at the club):
 * Three weeks ago Siobhan was recording in the studio [b-sides I guess], and a week ago was in Ireland
filming [ a video clip I presume].
 * There are 2 versions of the video for "I Can Drive". (known as 'version one' and 'version two'). The
second one includes footage of cars on the street, but Siobhan's performance remains the same.
 * Siobhan performed as scheduled at the Wow Bar at the Gay Pride Festival, however her set was cut short
by 20 minutes. She performed "Go", "You're History" and "I Can Drive".

A Marcella Detroit fan club is also operating now. Members "will receive 6 newsletters which include up-
to-
date information on Marcella as well as photos and competitions. Posters are available to M.D. Fan Club
members. To join the _Marcella Detroit Fan Club_ simply send a check, money order or International
Money Order made payable to Janine LaDouceur to: MARCELLA DETROIT FAN CLUB, P.O. BOX
5142,
LONDON, W4 2WH, ENGLAND. The membership cost is UK 4.50 pounds for
the UK and Europe, $9.00 for America and UK 5.50 pounds for the rest of the world.
If you would like a reply to any letters, please send a SASE or an International Reply Coupon. Thank
you".
Janine says the first newsletter will be out shortly. Marcella's single will be released in Australia and New
Zealand through Festival Records shortly. No news on US distribution yet.

The July/August 1996 issue of "Arena" has finally hit Australian shores, and includes a one page interview
of Siobhan by Mark Edwards. Some points Siobhan makes include:

Mark: Anger seems to be a theme on the album.
Siobhan: There's a lot of rage in there. Still, you have to express it somehow. Well, if I didn't express it in
song, I'd become incredibly violent -as I'm known to have been.
Mark: What, recently? Since the last album?
Siobhan: Comparatively recently. Oh yes but of course.
Mark: But only people you really care about right?
Siobhan: Naturally, it's an inverted compliment.

Siobhan: "Do I Scare You" (sung in exactly the nasty tone of voice you'd imagine) "takes me to quite a
bleak time in my life. I was really depressed when I wrote it, and depression scares people off. It makes me
laugh that it has that effect." (Then she adds, in a voice that demands the full black eye make-up of the Stay
video): "Come to my place. I'm having a party... for _one_."

Mark: A pattern emerges. Between records Siobhan slips into depression -or violence- to emerge the other
side having shed another skin. Siobhan: It's like a journey back to myself. And I've been knocked off
course so many times.
Mark: (Mainly by her lack of confidence, and her subsequent need
to be in somebody's gang. That's what Bananarama was all about:
a gang that would have her. That's why she hooked up with Marcella,
whose musical skills offered the musically instinctive (but incompetent)
Siobhan what she saw as necessary help).
Siobhan: But there was never a natural friendship. It was a battle staying together. She just didn't
understand what we were expressing. She would look at it in purely musical terms, but that was barely half
the story as far as I was concerned".

Hi everyone,

Good news from Denny, with a possible release date set for the Shakespears Sister album:

Apparently the release date for the new album is Sept. 9 or 16 I think. I will check on it. I saw that date
posted at the local record store!

Well according to my local record store, they have a listing of the anticipated release date of the new SS
album for Sept. 9, I believe. Of course, as we all know these dates are not always accurate and album are
always pushed back. The Please Yourself and Pop Life albums were pushed back months after their
proposed release date. But we shall all cross our fingers!! :)

Have you ordered your copy of the new Nana compilation yet? Just ordered mine!

The following is a listing obtained from:
http://rep.edge.net:80/writer.html

which is a songwriter database for the U.S. (I think...). It's currently being updated, but I downloaded this
listing a few months ago. I'm not quite sure what this place does, but I presume it collect royalties for song
performances on radio, tv, and publishing etc. Note that Marcy is known under 5 names, including the
obviously(?) wrong March Levy! From memory, the main listing of songs were identical under each of the
4 variations of Marcy/Marcella Levy/Detroit.
Does anyone know anything about the songs marked with an asterisk, which don't appear on Marcy's first
two albums, or the Shakespears Sister albums?

A CALL TO ARMS!

There is a rumour that London Records are going to shelve the upcoming Shakespears Sister album! I hope
we can look back in a few weeks and laugh at this, but in the meantime I suggest we write to London
Records and politely ask/demand that it be released soon.

 Polygram have a website: http://www.polygram.com/polygram/

but there is absolutely no mention of Shakespears Sister. London is mentioned, but seems to refer to a label
of classical music.

Any ideas on how we can contact them, or any other suggestions to help get the album released??

**********************************************************
In happier news, there is a nice new photo of Siobhan available at the "T In The Park" website:

http://www.tennents.com/sunmain.htm

It also has a brief blurb on SS appearing at T In The Park as follows:

"T in the Park" Sunday 14th July
Strathclyde Country Park
 By Hamilton, Lanarkshire
 SCOTLAND

SHAKESPEAR'S SISTER
T in the Park marks a welcome return for Siobhan Fahey, who has maintained a relatively low profile in the
period since the massive success of the "Hormonally Yours" album. When her sales with Bananarama are
combined with those of Shakespear's Sister, Fahey is arguably the most successful act (in chart terms) on
this year's bill. Since her partner Marcella Detroit left to pursue a solo career, Fahey has been working with
her husband Dave Stewart and Glaswegian legend, Bobby Bluebell, who share the writing credits with
Fahey on the new single, "I Can Drive."

Ok, this address "fell off the back of a truck", so lets USE IT!

It's up to you, but flaming probably won't achieve much (to begin with anyway). We don't _know_ the
album has been shelved; so perhaps a few polite inquiries to begin with? On the other hand, would they
expect anything less from an enraged SS fan??!
