Hi everyone,

Marcella herself has kindly answered some questions posed on the mailing list
recently:

...what is marcy doing releasing b sides as singles?

"only one b side was released as a single, and that was "boy". it was a b-side for I
hate you now. the response to boy was much better than the response to I hate you
now, so it was decided to release it as a single later on down the line. the beatles
used to do it all the time. if it was good enough for them, it's good enough for me!!"

......should be doing remixes like Shakespears Sister

"I don't think people realize what it costs to do remixes. as you well know, I now
have my own independent label-true I have more artistic freedom, but unfortunately,
the funding is nowhere near as great. remixes can run anywhere between 10,000 to
50,000 pounds depending on who you get to do them. london rex has that kind of
money-unfortunately or not, we don't. also, someone wondered where the I
believe vid was shot-it was shot at an old abandoned gas works that stanley kubrick
owns. he filmed full metal jacket there."

If you want to write to Marcy, her address is: detroit@atlas.co.uk

I recently got email from Marcy in which she answered a few of my questions (I'm
still a bit dazed that she replies to her email herself!). Anyway, here's the scoop she
gave me. "Flower" will be out April 7 in the UK (not March 24 as someone had
stated). The album, "Feeler," should be out in North America by September (if all
goes well).
Be well.

Well waddya know?!!

I finally checked out Marcy's site after mos and mos and there is a new update:
Flower will be released in the UK on April 7 or 9 (I forgot). Feeler will be re-
launched at the same time. The vid has been shot as well.

Canada and US should hope the album to be released soon. Marcy is trying to set up a
buying area on her site as well. Check it out for all the news.

She is also already working on new material for her next album. So I have to wonder
how legit it is to hope for an American release. I am patient though.

Denny

By the way, Prove Your Love was never released as a single in Japan. I was informed
yesterday the track was deleted... SOB!!

Hi Mike,

I just received a newsletter from Marcy's fan club. The good news is that is includes
the lyrics to feeler.
The bad news is that the new single "Flower" has been postponed for the third time
and it's now scheduled for release on April 14th.

Hi Everyone,
My boyfriend was reading the lyrics to 'Jewel' last week, and suddenly had a
revelation.... the song 'Jewel' is a tribute to Marcy's vagina. I dismissed him as being
his usual filthy self, but when I read the text it did leave me wondering. In all
seriousness and with no offence intended to Ms. Detroit and her privates, it does seem
like the song is about her coming to terms with masturbation and secret exhibitionistic
desires. Or I could be wrong, .it could be a nice ring she bought at a flee-market.

Please give me some feed-back on this. I hate to think I'm slandering Marcy...Does
anyone have an idea what the song is about?

HI EVERYONE,

Yes, actually I prefer the single version of "Boy" than "I Hate You Now...". Actually I
don't regret that "Boy" was released as single, I only regret that the rest of the CD
single only features album tracks. However the sleeve is simply great: certainly my
favourite Marcy sleeve!!! :-)

> remixes can run anywhere between 10,000 to 50,000 pounds depending on who you

Gulp!!

> london rex has that kind of money-unfortunately or not, we don't.

That's a real shame, but it explains the lack of remixes, doesn't it? How about
alternative versions/unreleased tracks. Personally I loved the song "Miss Anne Throp"
on the "Somebody's Mother" CD single!!!

OK people, now we all know what we have to do if we want remixes and better single
tracklistings: GO OUT NOW AND BUY THE MARCY ALBUM + SINGLES!!!!!
We must all help Marcy!!!!!!!!! We have to promote her!!!!

> "Flower" will be out April 7 in the UK

MY GOD!!! Another delay?? .... no news on the new SS single, delay on the Marcy's
single & cancellation of Bananarama's "Prove Your Love" .... what's next? :-(

> not March 24 as someone had stated

.... that was me. It's a long story: the fan club newsletter stated the release date would
be FEBRUARY 24th. Then Tower Records let me know that the single would be out
on the 24th, but of MARCH. Now April 7th... :-(

> Feeler will be re-launched at the same time.

The album is now out in the UK, I'm sure. What do you mean by re-launch?? Maybe a
different release?? Sounds interesting anyway!!

GOOD LUCK MARCY!!!!! MAX

By the way ... what would you all think about a collaboration between Marcy,
Shakespears Sister, Bananarama & Jaquie??? Nice, uh??!!

ALL THE BEST,

Hi everyone, I recently wrote to Marcy about her up-coming trip to Sweden, as well
as the Somebody's Mother CD singles that I found in 2nd hand shops in Sweden. I
was surprised to get 2 personal replies from her, and even more surprised by her
comments......

Here are the letters....
dear grant, fellow feeler;
thankyou for your e-mail, my friend. I, unfortunately don't think I'm coming to
Sweden in the very near future, but things are always changing so you never know!!!
I am, as it states on my website, releasing a new single off the feeler album, called
"flower". it will be out in the u.k. on april 14th. so, I will be coming over to england
to do some tv's, press, general promo. i'd love to come to your glorious country again
soon. and thanks for your interest. I will probably be going to germany, italy and
possibly japan to do promotion very soon. but keep an eye out for more updates on
the website. peace always-marcella d.

....as far as a tour of Sweden-it's very costly to tour so I don't know if that will happen.
it costs about 70,000 to 100,000 dollars to do a two week tour for a band so as you can
see it's quite an undertaking financially.
just to let you know, I am working on some new songs now. I just love writing
and being in the studio-it is second to being with my son, who is an absolute joy!!!!
writing keeps my mind and soul occupied, and is an absolute necessity for my sanity.
I'm so glad you appreciate my music. it makes it such a pleasure to know people
are actually listening. all the best to both of you-peace always, marcy d.

And some more news from Marcy:

> I just did a video for flower here in los angeles a few weeks ago. it was a lot of
fun-directed by a girl named iggi ogard, a nice swedish lass, living in the u.k. her
treatment was very similar to my initial take on what the video should be about: the
day in the life of a miserable housewife who's had enough!!! the happy ending is, she
gets out of it...the relationship, that is. flower will be released in the u.k. in april, and
I'll be going there to do some promo for it at that time.
> yes, there was a video for perfect world; it was directed by lance aston, the
person responsible for coming up for the concept of the shakespear sister stay video.
it was only released in the u.k. in jan. '95. as far as somebody's mother goes, there
was never a video done for that track, though at one time it was going to be a single in
the u.k.; I don't know if it will be a single anywhere else at this point.

  Mike.

Can I have the address to the fan club? I'd love to join, if only for the lyrics. The few
lyrics I could make out on "Feeler" were fab! Did you notice that Marcy almost
NEVER writes generic romance lyrics (like "I love you, you love me, etc."). Her
songs are always little narratives or emotional explorations.

[The address for the Marcella Detroit Fan Club is P.O. BOX 5142, LONDON, W4

From memory, the rate is about 5.50 UK pounds for overseas subscribers. Mike]

I don't think there's anything slanderous about that. I never really thought of that, but
it's a possible reading of the lyrics. It's not as blatant as Sheena Easton's "Sugar
Walls", say, but now that I think about it - you never know. I'm sure Marcy wouldn't
be offended. It's not like you think she's talking about killing somebody.
 > How about alternative versions/unreleased tracks. Personally I loved the song
"Miss Anne Throp" on the "Somebody's Mother" CD single!!!

Hey, where can I get a copy of that song ("Miss Anne Throp")? I think putting demo
or live versions of album tracks or album "throw aways" is a great way to sell singles.
I know it would make me buy a single even if I had the album. (hint hint). :-)

[Miss Anne Throp is available as a bonus track on the Japanese pressing of the
album "Feeler". It's a great track, and it's a shame that it's going to be hard to get
since the only other way to get it is off the abandoned "Somebody's Mother" single.....
M.]

Just a guess, but I think she means there will be another promotional push for the
album - which is given to an album when it is newly released. I guess that means all
you lucky bastards in the UK get to see Marcy on TV, see her do live gigs and radio
appearances. Anyone willing to tape all this for me? :-)

    [Yes, I'll second that....:-) M.]
 Thanks for listening.

When I read your comment in the recent newsletter about the meaning of 'Jewel', I
tried to replay the song in my head immediately and interpret it with her Vagina...
*grins*, hehe I don't think she means it that way.. or does she "carry it through the
darkness" in her pants? ;) Well, did you read the 'thank you' list of the CD? I was as
well wondering what she meant with 'Jewel' and I am quite sure now that she is
talking about her son, whom she says to love so much in those words of that thanks
to' text... I think the song is about the difficulties and tasks of raising a kid that you
love alot...

May be.. just my thoughts.. since you seemed to have contact with her, hehe, ask
her?! ;)

NO WAY!! It just wouldn't make sense. SS and Marcy yes, because they once were
one. Same with Jacqui and the Nans. But all four??! It wouldn't be logical. All their
sounds are quite different. Maybe Siobhan vs. Bananarama would be cool.

SSML-59, 18 April 1997.

Hi everyone,

I'm interested in tracking down a dance cover version of Marcella's "I Believe", as
heard by Nico Barrett <103521.3636@CompuServe.COM> Does anyone know who
the artist was who did this? And for that matter, does anyone know of any other
Shakespears Sister cover versions?

And thanks to Max or pointing out that the version of
"Boy" on the CD-single for
"Boy" has been edited down to 3:14 (from 3:31 on the I Hate You Now single and the
album). The edited parts are: the guitar solo straight after the first chorus was cut
shorter, in the same way as in "I'm No Angel", (though they weren't guitars but
Marcy's vocals in that song). Then the solo guitar part in the middle of the song has
also been cut shorter.
This occurs on the UK CD for "Boy", but not the Australian CD, which retains the
standard album version, although the shorter time is printed on the Australian sleeve.

Also, if you haven't seen Neil Goward's web site recently, there are now STACKS
of video grabs from performances and interviews, as well "new" articles and photos.
Well worth checking out. http://www.netmatters.co.uk/users/neilg/

Hi there,
For anyone interested I spoke yesterday to the woman who signed Marcy to
their Mega Records label for Scandinavia. She said that Flower wont be released here,
but Somebody's Mother was the third single here instead. (Without a video though. I
hate you now and Boy were the 2 others) The video for Boy was never shown here to
my knowledge, though the rights were issued here for its release. Although I haven't
come across any other Somebody's Mother singles, except though I've already traded,
she said that the single can be purchased by contacting: Mega Records
Skepparg. 8
114 52, Stockholm, Sweden
I hope this helps anyone collecting Marcy singles. Apparently Scandinavia was the
only territory were Somebody's Mother was released. So it might be worth the effort
to get the single. It includes 'Miss Anne Throp'. The funds unfortunately have run out
for the release of Flower here though.

Thought you might find this interesting...

SHAKESPEAR'S SISTER star SIOBHAN FAHEY is head over heels in love with a
little-known Irish actor. MARTIN DUNNE, who has a small part in the new
HARRISON FORD/BRAD PITT thriller THE DEVIL'S OWN, met Fahey on the set
of a low-
budget film called PINNED. Both starred in the movie about Dublin drug addicts,
which was shot on location in the Irish capital last year. And Dunne reveals, "We
were just friends at first, but love blossomed as I showed her around the locations for
the film. We were both very vulnerable at the time, having recently split with our
partners. But gradually we fell in love."
Dunne, back in Dublin after a week in London with Fahey, has just landed a part in
JIM SHERIDAN's new movie THE BOXER. And Fahey - who split from former
EURYTHMICS star DAVE STEWART last year -
has a new album set for release shortly and says she also wants to pursue an acting
career.

ENJOY!

JASON!
*******************************************************

Presumably this must be the film previously referred to as "Clean Break" which had
apparently been purchased by Channel Four in the UK. Channel 4 has a web site
where you can search their database,
http://www.channel4.com/
and a search of this does not reveal any mention of Clean Break or Pinned, so it
doesn't seem to have been shown yet. There is one mention of a Siobhan, but it's not
_our_ Siobhan :-)
The email address for Channel 4 seems to be: right2reply@channel4.com

Perhaps if we write to them they may be able to confirm that they own the film and
have some idea when it may be shown...

Meanwhile, I found this item from a few months ago at:
http://alterworld.com/asleaze.1.15.97.html

"Millionaire music maestro DAVE STEWART has been stringing on fans that he was
suffering from Paradise Syndrome. The former-EURYTHMICS star claimed last year
that all his wealth and success had caused a range of imaginary illnesses. The
'admission' prompted a barrage of newspaper articles.
But 44-year-old Stewart, who once had his appendix removed when he was only
suffering from a vicious bout of wind, came clean at a London film premiere last
week. He admitted, "Oh I made all that up. I wasn't even saying that I had it, only that
I thought it was possible. I picked the phrase up from a STAR TREK movie about 20
years ago because I thought it sounded really good and now it's going into medical
dictionaries. Amazing." But there is no magical cure for Stewart's ailing marriage to
estranged wife, former BANANARAMA singer SIOBHAN FAHEY. Despite
spending Christmas together with their children in Jamaica, Stewart stresses, "If you
decide to split, you don't usually get back together again."

I received the Japanese "Feeler" CD, and it's faaaar better than the German issue.
The sleeve is completely different: it features the photo of Marcy that is on the first
page of her Web Site (the page with the admission ticket). Also it features a proper
booklet with many photos and the fully lyrics. Finally there is a sheet with
biography+lyrics in Japanese.

A great item indeed!!!!!!!

> And for that matter, does anyone know of any other Shakespears Sister cover

YES!!!
"Hello" was covered by a German hard rock group called "The Bates". The video was
also VERY similar to the original SS video!!! Unfortunately I have never been able to
find a copy of the CD single anywhere. I'm not sure, but I think it was released in
1994/1995.

And finally, for those people who aren't on the B'rama mailing list, a bit of a
"history" lesson that will appear there soon:

Subject: Re: Siobhan the True Sex Pistol
[Background: Mark Burke (MBurke@esd.ihs.dhhs.gov) on the B. mailing list has
discovered a new CD titled "The Lydon's and O'Donnell's Family Album" which is
some kind of Sex Pistols compilation which has a photo of Keren & Sarah, taken in
about 1981 (they contribute backing vocals I think...). I wondered why Siobhan did
not appear in the photo]

>> [Mark]: I saw your question on the Bananarama Mailing List - good question!
Siobhan does not appear in any of the photos, and as far as I can tell was not cropped
out of any of the photos. It's my guess that this was recorded in 1981, possibly before
Siobhan moved in with Keren and Sarah, who were living upstairs from the Sex
Pistols rehearsal studio, or something like that.

> [Mike]: is this correct? Did K*S live together before Siobhan forced her way onto
the scene?
[Sarah Mager]: Yes - K&S were living int he squat with 5 other girls and Siobhan
was living on wardour street with the redneck 20st flatmate who, jim reilly (shuvs
bonk..) stole her licquor, so they locked themselves in a room and she went nuts
attacking the door and then called the police .. etc etc.... in the end she was kicked out
and ended up walking the streets for a week with all her stuff in a carrier bag - not
long after that she moved in with K&S - where Keren gave her bed to shuv, and
bunked with sara...
standard 1st grade banana history here....
     >But weren't S&S at college together? yes thats in 1979. K&S would've
finished upper sixth in 1978 and moved to london then....
     >Or is that how it happened: K&S living together, then Siobh. met S through
college.
well thats part of the story.... S also met s & K at several niteries through common
friends, as well as college
     > [Mark]: It's my guess that this was recorded in 1981, possibly before Siobhan
moved in with Keren and Sarah, who were living upstairs from the Sex Pistols
rehearsal studio, or something like that.
Well the recording is from 1980 (thats what it said in the bit on the BML..) so they
definitely knew Siobhan by that stage, maybe Siobhan wasn't a fully fledged member
at that stage?
