They arrived at the club ten minutes to midnight. "Before any of the other guys snag you, do you want to dance?" Kevin asked.
"Why not?"Vanessa responded.
Kevin led her to the dance floor, and they attempted to catch the rhythm to the Deephouse song that was playing.
"You're a good dancer," Kevin commented.
"After years and years of practice," Vanessa answered. "You are too."
"Thanks," Kevin said.
Then "End of the Road" by Boyz II Men came on. Kevin reached out and pulled Vanessa close. She put her arms around Kevin's shoulders and rested her head against his chest.
"I love this song," Kevin said softly.
"Me too. But it isn't my favorite," Vanessa said. "Song, I mean."
"What is your favorite?" Kevin asked. "'I Guess That's Why They Call It the Blues',"she answered.
"By Elton John?" Kevin asked. Vanessa nodded and he said, "He's great."
"Yeah, he is," Vanessa said.
"I like the way you feel in my arms," Kevin blurted out.
"I...um, well...I," Vanessa stuttered. "I like the way I feel in your arms."
"Two things we have in common," Kevin commented. "There's gotta be more."
"We can give it time," Vanessa said.
"Well, actually," Kevin said. "I'm only in New York for two weeks."
"Oh, I forgot," Vanessa said. "We both have green eyes."
"Three things," Kevin laughed. "We're on a roll."
"Alrighty," Vanessa said. "Lets see, what else could we have in common? How about- hey! Isn't that..."
"'Everybody'. God, that's embarassing," Kevin groaned.
"Well, don't stop dancing!" Vanessa exclaimed, tugging his arm back. "Why is it emabarassing?"
"Hearing yourself everywhere?" Kevin asked. "It's kinda hard to explain."
"Well, I like hearing you," Vanessa said. "In fact, I wish I heard YOU more often."
"Lots of people say that," Kevin laughed.
"You should write words to your song," Vanessa commented.
"Which one?" Kevin asked. "The one you wrote the music to," Vanessa said. "You played it a few hours ago to bunch of screaming girls, and I do believe it's on 'A Night Out With The Backstreet Boys'."
"Why don't you write the words?" Kevin asked, only half-joking.
"Fine, I will," Vanessa said. "If it means I get to hear you sing by yourself."
Both Kevin and Vanessa laughed through the rest of the song.
