"Hey B-Rok," Kevin said, on his cell. "How's it goin'?"
"Alright," Brian said.
"I saw Dallas," Kevin said.
"Oh," Brian murmured.
"I need to talk to you alone tonight," Kevin said. "I won't take no for an answer."
"What did you want to talk about?" Brian asked later that night, at Kevin and Vanessa's house.
"Dallas," Kevin said. "I think you made a mistake."
"I know I shouldn't have talked to her at the club," Brian said. "I should've known it would be too painful."
"No, that wasn't what I was talking about," Kevin said. "When you broke up."
"What?" Brian asked.
"She didn't cheat on you," Kevin said.
"But Steve-"
"Steve knew you wanted to marry her," Kevin said. "He didn't want that to happen."
"Why?" Brian asked.
"Because he didn't want you spending time with her. He liked her. Who knows?" Kevin asked. "But she never slept with him!"
"Oh God," Brian said.
"She loved you," Kevin said. "Hell, she might even love you still."
"She hates me," Brian said. "I am such a jerk!"
"It was just a misunderstanding," Kevin said. "She knows now. She also knows you were going to propose."
"Oh," Brian said. "Well..."
"Maybe you could talk to her," Kevin said. "Beg for forgiveness."
"Maybe," Brian said.
"It worked for me," Kevin said.
And you and Vanessa are very happy," Brian said, hopefully.
"You got that right," Kevin said. "I always liked Dallas a lot."
"Me too," Brian said. "I think I will. Beg for forgiveness I mean."
"Good luck," Kevin said. "You guys deserve to be happy...with each other."
"Yeah," Brian said.
