And even more pictures

Here we go, a 1982 Jeep Wagoneer Ltd., a three-quarter ton chasis and the body of a 1950s station wagon on steroids...

Not to mention the guitars. From left to right, an Ovation Elite, the '82-made '62 reissue strat, and a 1994 crafted 40th Anniversary 1954 Fender Custom Shop strat copy. The Ovation is a US made model, not the Korean version, and although the cheaper ones sound fine using the electronics this one sounds great even acoustically. Using a large diaphragm mic three feet or so away from the guitar it sounds just like a full-sized dreadnought, and of course that plus the electronics (either recorded direct or through an amp) can sound any way you want. When using an amplifier with this acoustic/electric, I usually opt for the old tweed Deluxe.

The '62 reissue has been discussed elsewhere, and the '54 model is something I picked up in 2001. It has a very warm and open sound, not brittle at all, unlike some close-grained ash guitars. This one has a very open grain, and the very thick soft "v" neck shape combines with the body to give it a very rich and light sound. It's not so much brighter than the other strat as it's a lighter sound. The pickups are the Custom Shop '54s, generic copies of the early and mid-50s strat pickups, clean and clear, ringing like a bell and only hot if you know how to work 'em! This guitar sounds fine through all my amps, but the Twin Reverb and the Marshall are best for it, as the Deluxe and Marshall are for the rosewood-fretboard, thin-necked alder strat in the middle.

Here is a back view of the oldest amp I have, a 1951 tweed-covered Fender Deluxe.

Fender Deluxe

You can see (or could if the photo were clearer, I took this one) the replacement parts, the blue caps and some of the resistors, plus the new three-prong power cord. The large tube on the left is the original rectifier tube, and the two on the right are the original RCA preamp tubes; the Jensen speaker is also stock original. The power tube (the smaller two on the left) are replacements. I have all the original parts in a bag, just in case, but it really does sound better with the new parts.
