Study of Supposed Satanic Abuse
I don't know why I'm reprinting these findings. I just feel it's necessary for people to realize that the stereotype of what a makes Satanist is wrong.
This study was funded by the United States Government and conducted by the Davis Institute of California (I believe--I may be wrong on that) in the fall of 1994. It was intended to determine once and for all if there was a significant threat of occult crime. This is a short summary of the findings:
- 12,264 cases of suspected SRA (Satanic Ritual Abuse) were found.
- 69% of clinicians reported no cases; most of the rest reported 1 or 2; 1.4% reported over 100 cases each.
- The majority of agencies believe their clients to be telling the truth.
- 1 of the 12,264 cases found could be considered abuse. It involved a 16 year old boy who's parents were Satanists. This boy often watched rituals his parents did and sometimes took part in them. Of course, some rituals involve sex. This was considered abuse because the boy was a minor and chose to take part in such rituals sometimes. There were no instances of the public's perception of Satanic rituals present (mutilated bodies, etc).
- Child victims' stories do not agree with adult "survivor" memories. (ie, children report they had to go through terrifying ordeals, like being put into a coffin and lowered into the ground. Adults report they witnessed mutilations and tortures. They also say they were cut. The idea is that the child mind isn't mature enough to create such scenarios.)
- No child pornography involving either true Satanic themes or the public perception of Satanism has ever been found in the USA.
- No evidence of a large, organized, cult exists.
- No evidence exists of rituals that occured in adult "survivor" repressed memories.
- A serious problem of Christian abuse was discovered (The now current problem of child sexual abuse among Catholic Cardinals and Priests, a problem that Satanists and Occultists have been trying to make known for decades, is an prime exmaple.)
- Virtually all children were found to be unable to identify Satanic symbols or rituals.
- Virtually none of the therapists and agencies reported all of the cases as non-Christian. The study organizers speculate that these therpists and agencies are creating memories of abuse due to their therapy and interview techniques.
