A Brief Goo Bio

" I don't want the world to see me - cause I don't think that they'd understand"

These lines have been heard around the globe as the chorus of one of this year's biggest hits - IRIS, from the highly successful movie 'City Of Angles'.
But what about the band behind them??

Well, if you are new to the World of The Goo Goo Dolls, believe it or not, they have actually been around over 10 years and have released 5 albums previous to the September release of 'Dizzy Up The Girl'

Originating in Buffualo, NY: Johnny Rzeznik - Guitar & vocals, Robby Takac - Bass & vocals and George Tutuska - Drums & vocals, formed the band way back in 1986.

A mix of punk with 70's rock, the band released a self titled debut indie album in 1987 and later formed with Metal Blade records to release a further 3 - Jed, Hold Me Up Superstar Car Wash. This proved to be a fatal mistake.

After many legal fights, and dropping long time drummer for newie Mike Malinin, the band finally signed with Warner Bros. Records to release their 5th album 'A Boy Named Goo' Although this is one of their best albums - it took a long time for it to take off, until the release of 'Name' a heart felt rock ballad that appealed to radio audiences. This gave GOO GOO DOLLS a signature that stuck with them, and helped the success of their latest album.

With the success of 'A Boy Named Goo' the band now had to come up with a follow up album equal to, if not surpassing it. No one felt this pressure as much as Johnny. Suffering from writers block, which nothing could break, until he was asked to write a song from the up comeing movie 'City Of Angels'.

After seeing that, Johnny went back to his hotel room and immediately come out with 'Iris'. The rest is history.

'Iris' was a huge success around the globe, thus giving the long deserved coverage of the band. Following the single was the long awaited 6th album 'Dizzy Up The Girl', and their next hit sensation - 'Slide'
