Lughnasadh

Lughnasadh is celebrated on August 1. This holiday celebrates the first harvest, and thanks the Goddess and God for their bounty during the summer.

It is traditional to plant the seeds of fruit used during the Lughnasadh ceremony. If the seeds sprout, the plant is grown with love, and is considered a symbol of connection with the Goddess and God. Wheat weaving is also practiced during this holiday. Visits to wells, orchard, lakes, and fields are appropriate for this time of year.

The traditional foods for Lughnasadh are bread, berries, acorns, crab apples, all grains, and locally ripe produce. A cake is sometimes baked, and cider can be used in place of wine.
