Samhain

Samhain is celebrated on October 31. This holiday is celebrated in rememberance of the dead.

It is tradition on Samhain night to leave a plate of food outside of the home of souls of the dead. A candle is placed in the window to guide them to the lands of eternal summer. Burying apples in the hardpacked earth feeds the passed ones on their journey.

Tradtional foods for this time of year are turnips, beets, apples, gingerbread, cider, nuts, corn, mulled wines, pumpkin dishes, meat dishes, and all squashes.
