DARKLAND ZINE
Interview done with Allan Ginther.
1)I love the name. How was it chosen?
We've been through plenty of names before settling on Edenrot. We kept changing them because we would find out about other bands that had the same name or something close to it. Most of the reason why we chose Edenrot was because it was really unique and unlike anything that we had heard before. We knew as soon as we released our first CD we would be stuck with whatever name we had so we wanted it to be something different. Once the CD came out we started getting into the underground to get the name out and try to establish a reputation of some kind. That's when we found out that our name wasn't as original as we thought. That's OK though, so we don't have the market on the name. Big deal. At least we spell our name as one word when everyone else spells it as two. We do secretly have plans to kill all the other Rot's out there for thinking too much like us. It's a secret though so don't tell anyone.
2)How did you guys meet?
We all went to high school together so that was the medium for our meeting. It's kind of fuzzy but I think I can recap. Jim(x-drummer), Justin(x-bassist), and Scott were all friends who were trying to jam out some songs for fun. All in vain I might add. I was asked to come in and fill in a second guitar but I don't think that was the real reason for my invitation. Most likely it was because they were losers and needed someone popular to help them out. I am like the grand pooba of our hometown and if you don't know me then you don't exist. Anyway, that was the beginning of Edenrot. Rose was always a friend of the band so when Justin left she stepped in to help.
3)Any favorite clubs you have played at?
The best place we have ever played at would definitely have to be Phantasmagoria in Wheaton, Maryland. One time was for a two day Metal fest and the other was with Garden of Shadows and 40 Days Longing. It's a record store/bar/club all in one. We have always had a great response from the crowd. They're always into the music and attentive and don't feel the need to beat each other up to have fun.
Another place we have fond memories of is The Rock in Clearfield, PA. It was an abandoned jail that was built in the late 1800's which someone decided to open back up and have shows in. They had the bands in the main hallway where all the cells were located and even had some of them opened so the bands had a place to put their equipment. The original catwalk was even still there so people could hang out and watch the bands. Definitely Cool.
4)Any thoughts on the explosion of blackmetal bands?
I wish they would get a good recording studio. I hate listening to fuzz.
5)How would you describe your music to those unfamiliar
with it?
Melodic Death Metal with traces of Black and Heavy Metal thrown in. Metal with plenty of guitar hooks, tons of melody, a touch of atmosphere, a small portion of groove, and a big slice of aggression.
Edge of Sanity/Paradise Lost/Carcass/My Dying Bride would be a good comparison.
6)What bands would you like to tour with?
Any more I'm not really sure. All the bands that I would have liked to tour with either aren't around or totally suck now. Obituary would have to be my first choice. I've always looked up to them ever since I started listening to heavier music. Death would be cool but Chuck would probably screw us out of money just like he screwed Hammerfall. Ozzy has always been cool and stuck to his guns but he is hosting all those Korn bands now on Ozzfest. I think the perfect person is Fieona Apple. She seems like she needs a good lay to knock the bitch right out of her. Probably be a little nymph-o too.
7)What is the feedback you get for the music?
You guys fucking suck! Why don't you take your drag queen get-up home and stay there. Take these stupid CDs with you!
8)Philosophical question: If you could ask ANY
historical person 3 questions, who would it be and what
would would you ask?
I'm going to change the question a little. Hope you don't mind. Three people one question:
1)I'd like to ask Bill and Ted what guitar school they went to when they went into the future? (They're historical people, as well as present and future people.)
2)I'd like to ask Benjamin Franklin if he was alive today, would he feel the need to start wrestling so he could be the most electrifying person in sports entertainment?
3)For the third person, I'd like to ask Gandhi if he ever got physical with himself when he masturbated or did passive resistance actually get the job done?
I'm sorry but I had to change the question a little. I can't dwell on one subject too long because I have a short attention span. I start making up little stories and ooooohhhh look, a bird! wwwwwweeeeeeee....
