Citizen King takes big step
March 12, 1999
You've seen them in Spin and on MTV -- and probably walking down Brady St.
Now you've got the chance to wish them well as they head out into the world to become The Next Big Thing.
Citizen King, the eclectic funksters from the east side, are celebrating the release of their Warner Bros. debut, "Mobile Estates" -- and the start of their first national tour as a major label act -- Saturday at the Modjeska Theater.
The band's first single, the hip "Better Days (And the Bottom Drops Out)" is already in regular rotation on radio stations around the country, and MTV has taken a shine to the oddball video for the song, set in an all-night supermarket. Come and see them up close before they start doing arena tours.
The Superpowers and DJ Jesse De La Pena start the show at 8 p.m. Tickets ($10) at all Ticketmaster outlets and by phone at 276-4545. Also, after 7 p.m. Saturday at the Modjeska box office (1134 W. Mitchell) an hour before the show.
