Name: Great Big Sea... As if you didn't already know that...
When They Started: 1991
Where They Met: There are several ideas on this subject, but we prefer to stick to this story: Darrell Power, Bob Hallett, and Séan McCann already knew each other from their former band Rankin Street, and met up with entertainer extraordinaire, Alan Doyle at MUN. But, the legend, that is now Great Big Sea, was officially formed at a kitchen party in the thriving metropolis of Petty Harbour, NFLD.
Other info: Great Big Sea is "a really aggressive folk band that marries traditional Celtic music with modern rhythms", Bob Hallett. Their albums contain a good blend of traditional music, as well as some new stuff written by the band members, as well as some excellent cover tunes. They are a very energetic band who's shows are not to be missed, and are always waited for in anticipation by their fans. They also love their home in NFLD and wouldn't dream of giving it up. They try to add a little bit of their culture into every performance, and song.
