Susaye Greene's Biography

Susaye Greene

At the time that this page was being created, Unfortunately we had very little information on the final member of The Supremes. So please bear with us as we endeavor to bring you a more complete and up to date biography

So here's what we have so far: Susaye Greene was the last member of the Supremes. She joined the group in 1976, she like Lynda Laurence was a member of Wonderlove - Stevie Wonders backing singers. Her singing career began some years before when she worked as a backing vocalist for Harry Belafonte. She then went on to work with Ray Charles

When she joined the Supremes she was in the company of Mary Wilson and Scherrie Payne. Her first few appearances took place on shows such as The Dinah Shore Show, Soul Train and American Bandstand

Her first tour took her to Germany, Italy and France, and brought her to the attention of everyone because of her amazing voice. While performing in England she received a five minute ovation for her performance of "He's Not Heavy, He's My Brother ",although I think she will remember her time in England for quite a different occasion when the hotel they were staying at became the target of the IRA and was bombed. Thankfully none of the group was injured but were quite shaken by the event.

While with the group Susaye appeared on two album releases and three singles (these can be found in the Discography's of Mary and Scherrie)

When Mary left to go solo, Susaye and Scherrie were still signed with Motown and were lead to believe that a third member was to be found. this never happened, so Susaye and Scherrie were given the opportunity to record an album together appropriately entitled "Partners". Which gave her the chance along with Scherrie to record some of their own material. Unfortunately this album was only released in the USA

Susaye was asked to work once again with Stevie Wonder's album "Hotter Than July", she sang on the track "Did I Hear You?"
