Most people I talk to about God are very narrow minded and will not listen to anything anyone else has to say. 'This is the way it is and you are wrong',is the most common way of thinking that I have come across and seems to me to be very arrogant. When the questions become to difficult, or there is no logical answer the topic is usually ended very quickly. To think that there is only one god,(if there is any gods),is a closed minded view of our universe. I certainly do not have all the answers, but I have my opinions.
The best way to descibe what I mean is to quote a person I work with. He is an older man who was brought up with old ways of thinking,( which is not his fault) and he is prejudice, bias, and narrow minded when it comes to religion. I must also say he is an extremely nice person and if he likes you, would do almost anything for you. We were talking one day about the bible and I asked him why so many people belived in a book. There has been many other books writen about many other religions and gods. I asked him about Budda, Confucius, Hinduism, Taoism and countless others, plus all the ancient cultures that had many gods and deitys. His answer almost made me laugh, but then I kind of felt sorry for him or something. He said that all these of other people are (were) confused or wrong.
Next will be some account of what the book of Genesis calls the supernatural beings at the beginning of creation. There is some account of ages but no time lines that I could find as of now.
FIRST DAY- The universe was created and our planet was included in this creation. The planet was all water and engulfed in total darkness. The power of God moved over the water and said "Let there be light" and there was. Then he seperated the light from the darkness and called the light "Day" and the darkness "Night". This passage states that our planet is the center of the universe and that God chose us to be special. Basic physics and astronomy tell us that we are not the center, but an insignificant spec in such a vast universe that it boggles the mind. I sometimes think that the reason people have developed gods is because they have trouble comprehending the universe and our exsistance. As time goes on we learn more about the universe and I think there will be less and less of the worship of gods of any kind. SECOND DAY- A dome was created to seperate the water and what became the sky. Pretty boring second day. I have been told that the days mentioned in the bible are not our 24 hour day, but could be millions of years. There is no time lines mentioned in the bible for creation or for awhile after that. THIRD DAY- Land forms,(from water or the water receeds, not very specific.) Land is called earth and water is called sea. Then God commanded, "Let the earth produce all kinds of plants, those that bear grain and fruit", and it was done. In all my studies of evolution, there is not much talk of the plant kingdom's beginings, mostly the animal life forms and how they developed. We do know that the simple life forms in the ocean like bacteria, algee and the like, can change to suit the enviroment. Some of these can also become air-borne and that may be how plants have evolved. I do think that plants and animals were developing at the same time but not at the same rate. FOURTH DAY- Then God commanded, "Let lights appear in the sky to seperate day from night and to show the time when days, years, and religious festivals ( or seasons) begin; they will shine in the sky to give light to earth", and it was done. So God made the two larger lights, the sun to rule over the day and the moon to rule over the night; he also made the stars. O.K. this is where it gets complicated. It is estimated that our planet and solar system is about 4.5 billion years old. We do not know how old the universe is, but it is thought to be from 14 to 20 billion years old. Some theories say that the is no begining to the universe and some say that it all happened with a big bang. This gets into the theory of relativity and the concept of nothing or never. I will say that nothing and never are concepts that I have a lot of trouble with. Point being that the universe is older than our solar system and our planet. This should mean that the stars at least were here before our planet. FIFTH DAY- Then God commanded that the water be filled with many living things and the air be filled with birds off all kinds. We are fairly sure that the ocean is the area that all living things came from, be they plant or animal. This may have happened before or after land had appeared, we are not sure, but there is evidence that the water creatures came to land at some point. More complicated evolution stuff. We think that fish of some kind came to live on land and develped lungs and legs. From there amphibians and reptiles had developed. Eventually this is where the dinosaurs came from. Birds are thought to have come dinosaurs, so... if there were fish and birds, where did reptiles and amphibians come from? SIXTH DAY- Then God commanded, "Let there the earth produce all kinds of animal life, domestic and wild, large and small"..." and now we will make human beings; they will be like us and resemble us. they will have power over the fish, the birds, and all animals, domestic and wild, large and small". So God created human beings, making them to like himself. He created them male and female, blessed them, and said, "Have many children, so that your decendants will live all over the earth and bring it under their control. I am putting you in charge of the fish, the birds, and all the wild animals. I have provided all kinds of grains and all kinds of fruit for you to eat; but for all the wild animals and for all the birds I have provided grass and leafy plants for food-" This is by far the busiest day yet, and the one where there seems to be the most inconsistency. This entire passage implies that all life that fits into the animal kingdom was made in this one day (whatever a day is). I am going to talk about time-lines after this, but for now the bible gives Adam as the first human. Everybody I talk to will not give me a reference time for Adam, but some say maybe around 10,000 years ago. If this follows, all life in the animal kingdom is about the same (more on that later). One other question; when God was making humans, it says "we" will make human beings, they will be like "us" and resemble "us". I thought christians only had one true god, and if so, who was the bible refering to? This passage also seems to imply that no flesh was to be eaten by any animal, only grains, fruit, grass and leafy plants. SEVENTH DAY- The whole universe was completed. This day was blessed and set apart as a special day because by that day God had finished his creation and stopped working. "And that is how the universe was created". The entire universe explained in two chapters in one book. That really amazes me that so many people hold so much from so little. Up to maybe four or five hundred years ago I could understand all of this because the average person had no idea what was going on in the world, not to mention the universe. We have learned so much since then that God (or any being of worship) does not seem to hold any crediblity. Science has taught us so much, even in the last one hundred and fifty years, that evolution and basic physics have formed the universe, our planet, plants, animals, and even humans. More on that next. |
