We are in the process of attempting our "House Show comeback", so if you missed the show we played in Claire's bedroom at House of Commons a couple of days ago, you still have a few chances left to see us in our natural environment. Don't make excuses, just come drink the free beer, stick around for a few songs, get really wasted and don't make it to the other 5 parties you had planned on going to. Come on, it's as fun as testing out mysterious prescriptions from old people's medicine cabinets!

Jay and Toto are currently homeless. I went up to Austin to have practice with them and suddenly realized that the situation left me with no place to sleep either. We all slept on couches at the 21st Street Co-op and life was okay. Oh, don't worry, the boys will find someone senile enough to rent them a house eventually. We are going to keep rocking through the rough times, here are our

Damn, sorry I haven't updated this page in 10 months. Ooops. Woozyhelmet is still livin for rock, despite the fact that I live 1.5 hours away from Jay and Toto now. We were supposed to go on tour this summer, had the whole thing booked and we were all giddy about it...and then the van got totalled a week before we were supposed to go.

We didn't let it get us completely down, though. We were high on spicy tofu or something one day and decided to load up our stuff and drive to Athens GA in Jay's 92 Honda Civic last week. We had a blast, ate some yummy food at the Grit, saw a cool band called the Wide Receivers, and played at Tasty World with a free jazz band called BCE. Thanks alot Mary Jessica for letting us turn your life upside-down for 4 days, the kids who made it out to the show, Chris and BCE for the amps, Ballard for the Yaeger and Samford + Son, and the folks at WUOG.

Looks like woozyhelmet has come full circle. We were born out of the 21st Street Co-op's Birthday Party one year ago, and we played the Birthday Party again on Saturday the 14th. It was madness, as usual. The cops came at 9pm during the opening band and demanded that no more bands play . The band stopped and then United Space went on a little while later, ignoring the police, but not playing all that loudly.

The party got huge. Hundreds of college kids had taken over the lawn and walkways and beer lines. The bands played music to khaki-clad SUV owners and dred-locked bike activists in the same room. It was weird. 12:30 came around, the cops had just left for the 3rd time (this time warning that the next visit would result in MIP and noise violation tickets) and it was time for woozyhelmet to defy the cops and entertain the partiers, but there was one problem: Nobody had seen Jay for an hour.

I searched all three floors of the co-op for the boy with no luck. I was about to give up when somebody told me to look in building 4B. The moment I stepped in I was greeted by the sight of Jay running down the hall in a reckless, red-faced, drunken display of joy. I said, "Jay, goddammit, we're supposed to be playing RIGHT NOW, before the cops come back!" Jay responded with slur and glazed eyes, "I'm not drunk. Let's go!" Needless to say, we then fucked some shit up.

so, we set up our own show at the 21st Street Co-op, another Soda Pop Production, and lots of our friends showed up to help us drink the keg of Lonestar and to watch us play. United Space (formerly Almost Francis) opened the night with their usual chaos, then we played our stuff around 10pm so that everyone could go to a real show later if they wanted. I didn't leave because the keg was still half full and I didn't just want to leave it and all of our stuff out all night. It was a fun night. I even got it on video tape. We got our first request ever, seems we forgot to put "WhistleHappy" on the setlist and when we were done, Philip came up to us and said "But aren't you going to play the song with the penguin?" We played it and then Philip became the first person to buy one of our CDs.

Hey kids!!! Don't miss the 21st Street Co-op Annual Birthday Party this Saturday, November 14! Woozyhelmet, United Space, and maybe even someone good will provide entertainment

okay, I'm finally recovered enough from the party we played Saturday night to write about it. It was so much fun! I broke my first bass string ever and then attacked Jay in the middle of a cover of that Cure song "Just Like Heaven". It was alright, we only had one song left after that and it didn't require the G. I don't think my blown amp's cutting out was too noticeable either. It was just plain fun. I can't wait until the next time. I probably won't have 4 beers before playing next time, though. Um...I don't think I ever found out the names of Karen or Bertie's bands, but they played with us and were good. Later, the Fatal Flying Guillotines showed up and made things all crazy again. Thanks Karen for letting us play and Johnathan for letting us fuck up his house.

in other news... we've done all kinds of recording lately on Josh's 8 track (thanks Josh!!!) and Jay is going to burn a limited edition of Woozyhelmet CDs, which should be out in November. Also, Aaron Smithers made a DAT of us at the party on Sat, and he says that he'll put a few copies of "Woozyhelmet Live at Karen's Birthday Party" on tape at Sound Exchange. Thanks Aaron!!!

I must be crazy, but we're giving the Bates Motel another go. I just hope no other biblical plagues strike this time; all we need is a million locusts to show up and fill the club to capacity, or maybe a nice toasty fire to burn the club down. Keep your fingers crossed and maybe the August 20th show with School Trauma Flashback will go okay.

Fuck. That's all I can say about last week's ill-fated show. I was so excited to finally play out again that I actually bought new bass strings and batteries for my pedals. The fliers were up all over town, Jay and Toto were back in Austin for the first time in a month...everything was going well. We practiced on Tuesday and it was like we had only been seperated for a weekend. Then at around 9 o'clock on the night of the show, I get a call from the club. The show was being cancelled due to FLOODING! How does a club flood in the middle of a fucking heatwave and drought? Turns out a pipe had busted or something. Randall was really apologetic and said he'd reschedule us if we wanted, but that was the thing. Jay and Toto left for wild East Coast adventures this weekend and we can't play again until Toto gets back on the 15th of August at the soonest. It was sad, even though I did get to see Los Crudos play at this wrap place later that night and it almost made up for it.

And I even made this

cute bunny flier

for the show...

Tragedy has stricken in the Austin dives. The Blue Flame closed suddenly and inexplicably (to me at least) on Friday last weekend. This has triggered a series of events resulting in our Tuesday show at The Bates Motel getting pushed back to Wednesday. It turns out that Wednesday might be a better day for alot of us in the bands anyway, so it's not a bad thing.Tuesday the 7th will feature the touring bands that were scheduled to play at the Blue Flame that night. Then Wednesday July 8th start with the head-bobbin' sounds of Phonomoss, then woozyhelmet will bring out the glue-eating kid in us all, and Halfwatt will play to a bunch of people that probably shouldn't be driving.

Okay, so I have no school, no job, no bandmates...no structure in my life. That's okay, I've been keeping myself busy obsessing over this webpage.I just learned how to do cascading style sheets tonight.I'll probably never use them since most browsers don't support them...but I'm digressing here. There are now lots of sound files on this site. I also got us yet another Bates Motel show. So far all I know is it's Tuesday, July 7th. We'll be sharing the evening with my pals in Phonomoss.

Well, Jay is about to leave for Europe on Thursday, so woozyhelmet is going on a short break. He'll be back in early July, so look for woozyhelmet shows in Austin and Houston in the later half of summer!

We had another show at the Bates on May 5th and it was alot of fun. Halfwatt and the Preverts played with us and it was a rad night. We didn't break nearly as many strings and the few people who made it out during finals week were really supportive. The kids from Halfwatt and the Preverts, Joel, and our pals Amy, Megan,Jeff, Philip, John, and all who showed up are masters of radness, thanks for everything, kids.

Our friend Josh recorded us in April on his 8-track, and we now have 5-song demo tapes available to all those who wish to enjoy the excruciatingly silly songs of woozy at home. Don't be shy, ask us for a tape, kids.We also have 2 stlyes of woozyhelmet t-shirts available for the die-hard monkeys out there, one with the background from this page and one with the woozyhelmet ranch image.

date unknown:

We were the only sober band that played last night (Mar 31)...the only sober people in the club most likely. The crowd of 50 or so of our closest friends seemed to enjoy the show even though we spent most of the time recovering from broken strings. I believe we are the proud new holders of the prestigeous "most broken guitar strings in a set award", having raised the record to 5 strings in 20 minutes.

By the third broken guitar string, I felt compelled to address Jay, the guilty party. I made my way over to him and he gave me that "Innocent Jay" smile. I responded with my "Evil Dinki" smile and gave him a solid head butt. Boy did that catch him by surprise. That sent him reeling and the song disintegrated even deeper into chaos. We had to skip the more complicated songs and cut the set short by three songs, but nobody hated us, and most people seemed to be having a good time, so I guess when it comes down to it, it was a good show.

We got asked to play a party on Saturday night, and we're also playing a party on Sunday night! Get ready world, woozyhelmet's taking over one backyard, and one dive at a time!
