DO SOMETHING NEW

I hear a lot of old-schoolers complaining about the scene... they say that things used to be so much better "back in tha day"... they compare the current scene to the one which seduced them so many years ago, remarking on how fashion, drugs and ignorance have taken over... they feel as though the scene has gotten stale...

Does this sound familar? Have you found yourself feeling this way? Have you found yourself frustrated and disappointed at the current state of things? If so, I offer this advice:

Try not to worry about those snapshots of time - those instances of your life... they are just passing moments - sweet fragrances on a summer breeze, to be metaphorical.

The difference between THEN and NOW is that THEN, you were new to something, and something was new to you... The mystery and awe of it captivated you and enchanted you. Everyhing was fresh - unjaded - unsullied... NOW, you're a different person, with much more experience, and much less innocence. How do you get "back" to the way you felt THEN? Simple: go FORWARD. You can regain that awe and mystery by exposing yourself to new stimuli, and letting the Past fade into that dull patina of emotion and blurred memory. That's where it belongs.

People talk about going "back" to "tha day"... but what we need to do in order to feel that same way is to go FORWARD.

Do something new.

Do something that excites you.

By hanging back, pining after "tha day", we succumb to the safety of routine and habit.

"Back in tha Day", we were creatures of adventure and excitement... are we now creatures of habit? Are we no longer able to appreciate what USED to motivate us?

And no, it wasn't so much the music, or the drugs that thrilled us, it was the NEWness of it all... THAT'S what used to motivate us... that's what used to excite us, and keep us coming back for more.

When people say how "the scene is stale", we should realize that stale PEOPLE make for a stale SCENE.

Do something new.
