James Hetfield was born in 1963 in LA. This extremely musically gifted boy learnt pretty fast how to play the guitar and founded a couple of bands before he got in touch with Lars Ulrich and became a part of Metallica.

James has been struck by many misfortunes all through his life, things that has affected him deeply. His mother died from cancer while James was still a kid, and in some lyrics he tries to deal with his mother's death (lyrics such as "Mama said" on Load). He has also risked his life in hunting,- and skateboarding accidents.

But now, luckily, James is taking things much cooler and is now a happily married man, and the rumours are at the moment that James wife, Franscesca, is expecting a child!

In Metallica James is responsible for most of the lyrics, and though he used to be "just" the singer and rhythm guitar-player, his guitaring now seems to be equaly important as Kirks. To describe James's voice with one word: delicious!! Yeah, that's the word! His voice tastes bittersweet in the most lovely combination! Pretty sexy!!
