Annie looked at Brian and mouthed, 'Who is it?' he just shrugged and put
the phone back up to his ear.
"Um, excuse me? Who is this?" he asked.
"Ok, ohmigod, Mr. Littrell it's Kim. I...I don't know what happened and I
didn't do anything he just stopped breathing and I don't know. I'm sorry,"
she cried.
Brian's heart sank when he heard that, "Kim, calm down for a minute,
please. What happened?"
"I went to go check on Anthony after I fed him and he wasn't breathing
when I went upstairs, I didn't do anything, I put him down correctly. I don't
know what happened."
"Where are you?"
"I'm waiting for the ambulance," she sniffled.
"Ok, call me on my phone if ANYthing should happen, we're on our way," he
said and hung up the phone, he didn't wait for a response.
"Brian what's going on? Where are we on our way to?" Annie asked, seeing
Brian in a panic.
He looked at her and it broke his heart in two to have to tell her the
news, "Come on, I'll tell you on the way," he said and grabbed her hand
pulling her with him out the building.
"Oh God, it's Anthony isn't it?" she asked getting teary eyed.
"Um, Kim called --"
"Something's not right, oh God Brian just go!" she instructed and picked
up her dress so she could run.
Once they got to his Durango they hopped in at the speed of light and
sped off to the hospital. They rode the whole way in silence, each thinking
about Anthony.
Brian pulled into the hospital parking lot and instantly grabbed Annie's
hand, to say a prayer for their son.
It had been 2 hours since they reached the emergency room and hadn't
heard anything from the doctors.
A short blonde girl approached Brian, "Mr. Littrell I just called my Mom
and I have no way to get home, so I was wondering if you could..." she
trailed off, she didn't want to ask for a favor. She felt that she was the
cause Anthony was in the hospital, but she was far from right.
"Sure," Brian turned to Annie who was sitting next to him, "Ann, do you
think you would be Ok if I left for a few minutes?" he asked.
"Um, I'll be o..okay," she tried to get out without crying again, but
failed.
Brian wrapped his arm around her and held until she stopped.
"I'm calling A.J., he can stay here with you for a couple of minutes. You
can't be alone," he said taking out his cell phone to call A.J. He really
didn't want to stay in that hospital longer than needed. He couldn't be
strong for both himself and Annie, he wanted to break down and cry too, but
he couldn't do that to Annie.
He rubbed her back, "Ok, I called him, he'll be here in a little while."
No sooner did A.J. come running through the Emergency room doors along with
his bodyguard.
Brian walked up to him, "Hey, thanks man," he said quietly, giving A.J. a
hug.
"No problem, where's -- oh my God, she's a wreck," he said seeing Annie
sitting in the waiting room.
"Yeah, she can't get through a sentence without breaking down. I wouldn't
leave her, but I just need to, I don't know and I have to take Kim home."
"It's Ok, I'll stay with her, go ahead," he looked at Brian who looked
like he was going to have his own breakdown, "it'll be ok," A.J. said
reassuringly and put a hand on his shoulder.
Brian nodded and walked out of the hospital with Kim. A.J. took a breath
and went over to Annie.
"Hey sweetie, how're you holding up?" he asked.
"I'm...horrible. I'm just so scared for Anthony," she said quietly and
again wasn't successful in keeping herself from crying. A.J. grabbed her in a
hug and stroked her hair, "Shhh, he'll be Ok," he whispered.
"Why won't they tell me anything, A.J.?" she said through tears.
"I don't know honey."
"All I want to know is if my baby is Ok. Is that too much to ask?"
"No, it isn't. I don't know why they're not talking, we'll wait a few
more minutes then I'll see if I can get anything out of them."
A few minutes later a doctor walked up with a clipboard.
"Excuse me, is Mr. Littrell or Ms. Millano here?" he asked, looking down
at the papers in his hand.
"That's her," A.J. said for Annie.
"Would you mind coming in my office, to discuss your son, Anthony
Littrell?" he asked.
"Sure, come on honey," he said and got up with Annie helping her walk
down the hall. A.J. noticed she was still in her dress and all fancied up, '
Poor thing, must've got the call on her date with Brian,' he thought.
The doctor took a seat behind his desk and there were two big cushy
chairs in front of his desk that now occupied A.J. and Annie.
"Would you like to wait for your fiancé?"
She shook her head, "No, I can't wait, just please tell me Anthony's Ok."
"I don't know how to say this..."
