Chapter 1

"Dam Nanc, turn down the music ... cruisin' down the highway with BSB blastin from my stereo isn't the best way to catch hot guy's attention," I said with my voice raised over the radio's volume.

We were crusin' down the 5 freeway headed toward Burbank to begin our summer job at Virgin Megastore. It was 6:30 in the morning and with no response from Nancy I turned the dial to the local hip hop station blasting the Ruff Ryders Anthem by DMX.

I pulled into a local gas station just to buy a good morning's worth of cup cakes (now that's what you call a nutritional breakfast). "Want anything Nanc?" I asked Nancy ... she just sat there in the passenger seat with her arms crossed and a pouty face on.

"Oh come on ... you cant be that mad that I interrupted your BSB song?" I asked. She just got out of the car and headed in to the store with me following behind thinking in my head, 'Dam that girl's gotta lighten up a bit.' I picked up a few cup cakes and headed outside only to be greeted by the most horrible sight I ever saw.

"My Car!!!!," I screamed out of my mind dropping my breakfast to the ground in shock. I ran up to my car as the person driving the silver bus came out apologizing, "I'm so sorry mam."

I looked at him in shock, my mouth open wide, I inspected the damages. my left tail light was totally smashed in... I looked at the dark haired man and said," I just bought it a week ago! do you know how much I worked for this thing?"

Just then Nancy came out of the store, seeing what happened she began rolling in a fit of laughter. "That's ... what you ... get ... for tuning ... out ... my BSB!!," she said catching her breath."It's not funny!" I yelled at her, turning back to the driver of the bus I asked,"How did this happen?" "Well see I was getting gas and as I began to pull out of the pump I didn't see your car and well ... here we are," he said with a smile trying to lighten things up a little. "Don't worry mam I am totally capable of paying for all damages ... here's the address you should send the bill to," he said handing me a business card. "Unless you want to get it estimated now here at the gas station," he suggested. I was still overwhelmed with all that was going on.

Nancy elbowed me in the ribs pulling me out of my trance she pointed at her watch and I blurted out," Oh shit its our first day of work and were gonna be late!" "Don't worry mam you can leave your car here to be estimated and it would be a pleasure for me to drop you off at work ... oh how rude of me, my name's Eric," he offered politely extending his hand. I gently shook it and introduced myself, "My name's Cindy and this goof ball is Nancy," referring to my best friend standing by my side. Nancy shook his hand and said, "It's a pleasure to meet you."

I took out my 12 CD disk player from my trunk and all of my other personal belongings hesitantly leaving behind my precious car. "So were do you work?" Eric asked as he escorted Nancy and I into the bus. "Virgin Megastore," Nancy answered. "Oh wow! What a coincidence... I was just headed there," Eric replied. Nancy and I stepped into the spacious bus sitting down in what seemed to be a small kitchenette. It was only a 10 minute drive to the store and as we approached it there seemed to be a huge crowd surrounding the store. "Must be some kinda signing today," I said to Nancy staring out the bus window. "That's funny, Scott didn't seem to mention that there would be a big event today," she replied referring to our new manager who so happened to be Nancy's ex-boyfriend.

The bus parked behind the store to avoid the huge crowd. Eric stepped out first, he was greeted by five guys with worried faces plastered on them. "Where were you?" one of them asked. Scott came out of the store just as Nancy and I came out of the bus. "Where were you?" he asked with more anger in his voice then concern. "I sorta smashed her car up," Eric finally spoke pointing in my direction. "Worst part is that it was parked," I said.

All six of them began laughing their asses off. Pointing at Eric in a mocking voice one of the unknown boys asked, "You crashed into a parked car?" Eric unwillingly nodded his head as more laughter surged through their bodies.

"Wait ... he smashed up your new Sebring?" Scott asked me as the group slowly began to calm down. "You don't have to rub it in," I answered making a pouty face. "1999 Sebring?" one of the other guys asked. "Convertible," I added. "Ouch! Now that had to hurt," he replied. "So who are you guys anyways?" I asked the group. Nancy looked at me like I was crazy and said, "Cindy don't act stupid ... you know who they are." I looked at them, then back at Nancy and asked, " Who?" But before she could respond she looked at all five of them and fell flat on the floor unconscious.

"Oh my god! Nancy!"

"I think she's a fan B-rok."

"Yeah I would say so"

"What are you guys talking about? Don't just stand there, help me!" I cried out incredulous at how calm the guys would be when someone just fainted at their feet. "Nick?" One of the guys asked to the blond one in a knowing tone "Okay Brian." "What are you guys talking about?" Before I could do anything Nick spilled the whole contents of his water bottle into my best friends face. "Ahh!" Nancy woke up with a shout and looked around at what happened. "Are you-" I began to ask her concerned but she cut me off with more screaming. "Oh my god! Nick Carter just poured his drink on me! I'm never going to wash this shirt again!" With that, she fainted once more.

"So lemme guess, you guys are the Backstreet Boys right?"

"that's us," the tall one with bushy eyebrows said. 'oh now I remember,' i thought. Nancy had made up a little rhyme for me to remember the names of them all. "the one with eyebrows that are so bushy, is Kevin who also has a very nice tushy" I muttered to myself. I took a look at his butt and said "your Kevin right?" he blushed. "Nice rhyme." "Yeah she taught it to me so I could remember your names when she swore we would meet you," I pointed at Nancy still lying on the ground. I bent down and slapped her. She fluttered her eyes open and looked at her surroundings.

"Oh man, the one thing I promised I wouldn't do i just did. argg" she pulled at her hair in frustration. the guys shook in another fit of laughter. "Hey, don't pull your hair out, its very pretty, I would want to keep it if i were you."

"the one with hair as yellow as the sun, is Nick Carter who is also the one that likes to have fun." I muttered to myself again remembering her rhyme. it was amazing I actually remembered. "Hey Nancy, you're as red as a tomato, is it just cuz your God just gave you a compliment?" She glared at me. "yes I'm fine thank you for asking. Thank you Nick, for being polite." She brushed the gravel from her ass and started to walk away.

"i think she's mad at me." "Nah, you think?" the brown haired guy who I think was Brian gave me a sweet smile. 'damn! What a hottie' I thought. "Well, you guys do whatever you were doing, it was nice meeting you." I turned to Eric, "And you mister will be getting a very large bill soon." I checked my pockets to see if I still had the business card he gave me earlier, with no luck I looked to him and asked, " And me being so forgetful I've seemed to misplace your card you don't mind giving it to me do you?" Without a word he grabbed a pen from his pocket and wrote an address on my arm. 'warm hands,' I thought.

"Well, laters guys!" I waved at all six of them. "Oh ... we'll be back, we're just getting some breakfast. Want anything?" Brian asked me. "No thank you due to the carnage that faced me this morning I seemed to have lost my appetite," I replied facing Eric. He just looked down to the floor and pouted. I ran over to him, hugged him and said, "Awww... I'm sorry" He smiled and hugged me back. All the guys pretended to wipe away invisible tears and said, "Awwww! How sweet!!"

I entered the store and found Nancy in the backroom labeling some CD's. "Mad at me?" I asked her as I walked in. She just kept on doing what she was doing and totally ignored me. "Fine Den be that way!!" I yelled at her as I approached Scott and asked him, "What do you want me to do boss?" "Just help Nancy with the labeling in the back room," he answered.

"But she's mad at me and you know how she is when she's mad," I whined. "Okay know what you mean... just set up the velvet ropes and the table for the signing, then when your done you can start letting people in," Scott instructed showing me where all the things were. I set up all the things within an hour. When I was done I began letting people in.

An hour later I began to help Nancy in the backroom I was silent and she was silent. It wasnt until an hour later whani asked her, "So are you happy that your favorite Backstreet Boy pured a drink on you?" There was no answer then I said, " oh common i know you are!!!!" "Shut up!! At least I dont have a crush on Justin Timberlake!!!" she teased me. "You like Justin of N Sync?" I heard six voices in back of me ask.

"What?," I asked turning around to find that the boys just walked in though the back door that connected the parking lot and the back room. I blushed.

"Oh shit are you blushing? Never in the 3 years that ive known you, have I seen you blush. Where's the camera? This is a kodak moment!!!!" Nancy teased once again. Everyone began to laugh. "I suppose we're even?" I asked turning to Nancy. "Yes we are!!!!" she smiled.

I showed the boys to their seats and they began signing autographs. My lunch break came around and me and Nancy headed toward the nearest McDonalds. We were about to walk out of the store when Eric stopped us. "Wait you two! Since I did bump into your car this morning and you are her best friend I would love to treat you two to lunch," Eric offered. "We would love to," I ansered takin up his offer.

"Actually you two go on I think Scott wants me to go to lunch with him," Nancy said excusing herself. "Okay then... go kiss and make up... oh and thank BJ for letting me borrow his car!" I yelled as Nancy walked over to Scott rolling her eyes to the `kiss and make up' part. "Shall we, my lady?" Eric asked offering me his arm. I linked my arm with his and said, "We shall" Eric and I walked over to BJ's back Viper, and unlinked arms as we approached it. I drove a few blocks to the nearest McDonalds and throughout the drive there was that uncomfortabe/akward silence that lingered though the car. We got to mickey dees and ate our lunch over a nice conversation that Eric started.

"So what year are you in high school?" Eric asked. "Oh, I just graduated high school two weeks ago... so I'm starting college in September. That car was a graduation gift from my parents," I answered bringing up that dreaded subject again. "Once again I apologize with all my heart about what I did to your car... please forgive me oh gracious one," Eric pleaded pretending he was bowing down to me. "Well if you put it that way then all is forgiven," I smiled patting his soft brown hair. "How old are you anyways... you know just outta curiosity," I asked. "21 in exactly a week," he answered.

"Thank you... when's your birthday?"

"March 29"

There was an akward silence but I began to get comfortable talking to him when something interesting finally came up. "So... Scott is Nancy's ex?" he asked.

"Yeah Nancy and I made a bet about three months when they first started going out. Since he was Nancy real first boyfriend I bet that they'd last at least past Scott's b-day in November, but I guess I lost. Its a good thing that Nancy forgot about it."

"Thats mean... making a bet on someone else's relationship"

"Not really... Scott knows about it now, I told him a few weeks ago and he took it as a joke"

"That still doesn't make it right"

"Fine then just make me feel bad why dont ya," I said making a pouty face.

"Oh dont be mad i was just trying to piss you off"

"Its okay... so how bout you, do you have anyone in particular?"

"No not really, just like the boys its pretty hard to keep a relationship going when you travel a lot."

"Yeah thats true unless you love that person enough that it would last no matter what"

"Yeah well thats never happened to me so I cant really say thats true, sometimes good things just go wrong and you cant save it no matter what"

"Speaking from personel experience?"

"Yeah... well sorta. I broke up with my girlfriend of three years shortly after I got this job- like a year ago- there was nothing either of us do to save it"

"Aww... Im sorry"

"Oh dont be Im pretty much over all that... I've moved on. So what bout you, got anyone special in your life other then that crush on Justin?"

"Not really... and its not a crush I just happen to think he has a really nice body"

"Yeah whatever... so what do you look for in a guy...thier body?"

"I dunno...and I'm not like that"

"Of course you would know... I mean what was your ex-boyfriend like?"

"Never had one, I was too busy with school and all the other crap life kept throwing at me, I never really had the time"

"So you dont know?"

"Nope... but I guess I would like to have someone that would make me happy"

"You mean youre not happy?"

I took a look at my watch not wanting to blurt everything out to a total stranger. Changing the subject I said, "Breaks over! We better get back before I get fired. I was already late this morning." I think he caught the hint that I didnt want to talk about it so he just got up and we both left.

"So do any of the boys have girls?" I asked out of curiosity and I knew Nancy would love to know about it latter. "Sorry mam if I told you then I'd have to kill you," he said in a bold voice. I laughed and tried to coax it out of him the whole ride back to the store.

"Pease tell me," I pleaded

"No can do missy... and why would you want to know?"

"Just curious... pleeease!!!!???? I promise I wont tell"

"Yeah rite you and me both know that you're gunna tell Nancy a.s.a.p."

" Yeah so? I mean I'd be forever grateful if you told me"

"Stop, you're getting pretty annoying now"

"Just tell me and think of it as payback for smashing into my car"

"Dam... youre so annoying"

"I love you too" I said smiling. He smiled back at me, and as we pulled into the parking lot I begged one last time, "Pretty please with sugar on top and sprinkles, and chocolate syrup and more ice creame and a strawbwrry with some cherries and whip cream. Not necissarily in that order but pleeeeeeeease?"

"That doesnt sound that tasty but okay I give in"

"Wow youre not that good at keeping secrets if you cave in that quickly"

"Hey dont spoil it... I already said I'd tell you"

"Oh tay sorry"

"Brian, Nick, and AJ do but Howie and Kevin don't"

"OOOOOOOOHHHHHH!!!!! I love you sooo much now," I squealed.

"Okay dont make me deaf now I encounter enough screaming girls in a day you dont have to add onto the collection"

"Are you mad at me?" I asked as I set the brake.

"No I could never be mad at you." he said coyly. I smiled and got out of the car. He followed me as we entered the back room through the back door avoiding the screaming fans. We were alone in the room and I turned around and asked, "What do you mean you could never be mad at me?" "Oh nothing," he answered.`nothing my ass` I thought in my mind."Okay if you say so," I said pretending that I didnt care.

I went back to work labeling more Cd's wondering if Eric liked me at all... we did have a pretty deep conversation, but why would he be interested in me? I asked myself. "Concentrate," I scolded myself aloud reffering to the mislabeled Cd's I just labeled.

"Its not good to talk to yourself, it's the first sign of insanity," someone told me entering the room. I turned around to see it was Brian."Hi," I said shyly.

He caught onto my shyness and said, "Dont be shy I know its not like you."

"Yeah and how would you know how I'm like?" I asked thinking it was totally wrong of him to say that of me.

"I mean you were so not shy this morning... I just thought you weren't like that" I dont know what came over me but I just snapped.

"Dont judge me on what you think, judge me on what you know. And you dont know me, therefore dont judge me at all"

"Sorry I just came to get a bottle of water"

"Then get it in peace and leave," I said completely offended by his judgemental remark. He took his water and left. 10 minutes after he left I walked out to the signing table, up to where Brian was seated, cutting into the line.

"Can I talk to you?" I asked in a apologetic voice. "Im sorta busy" he replied a bit harshly as he signed an autograph for some girl.

"Oh please?" I begged. He didnt answer, just then the neon light that said 'Backstreet Boys' that hung above the table began to make a weird buzzing noise. I looked at it and sheilded my eyes after the glowing letters burnt out sending sparks flying everywhere.

"Fire!!" everyone yelled as the whole table burst into flames. Everyone went running away from the table as I stood there in shock as death stared me in the eye.

The flames surrounded me thinking it was my only chance to escape this life that hurt me so much. Smoke entered my lungs as the heat became unbearable. I heard someone scream out my name, I didnt answer... I didnt think I wanted anyone to save me at that point, I was already suffering enough. I felt someone sling me over their shoulder as I began coughing like crazy, then everything went black.
