I
It was a cold Monday evening, the 8th of December,
A night that I'd like to forget..
Driving home from rehearsal, 'round eleven pm, I was tired,
So I lit a cigarette..

II
The drive home was quiet, as I fooled with the heater,
So I reached to turn the radio on..
But it wasn't too long 'till I heard someone say, he was shot..
Now Johnny was gone.

Chorus:
And I can still hear him singing in my life..
Of a girl with kaleidoscope eyes,
And in the Norwegian wood, Lucy stands with her diamonds,
Singing Goodbye, to Johnny, tonight.

III
I walked in the door, and I fell into bed,
still feeling a little bit numb.
When I woke the next morning, the TV was saying, he was shot..
Now Johnny was gone.

Chorus:
And I can still hear him singing in my life..
Of a girl with kaleidoscope eyes,
And in the Norwegian wood, Lucy stands with her diamonds,
Singing Goodbye, to Johnny, tonight.

IV
In New York the people are gathering..
The Dakota was empty and cold..
The sad faces crying by candlelight,
Singing Goodbye to Johnny tonight.

Chorus:
And I can still hear him singing in my life..
Of a girl with kaleidoscope eyes,
And in the Norwegian wood, Lucy stands with her diamonds,
Singing Goodbye, to Johnny, tonight.
