Some advice from the Experts
Play With The Equalizers ,but
carefully...
As in your home-stereo , most mp3 players
give you the option to modify the level of the sound ,separately for
many frequency areas. You want more bass ? Just
put the lower frequencies louder,etc
Tips
----
1. When you listen to the music through the computer
speakers ,don't put the bass in more than 0 db ,cause their
woofers (if there are any) have limited bass
extension ,and overloading them may damage them (when the sound is
distorted you must lower it immediately ,or else
it will be distorted for ever).
2. When you use an external amplifier (see Throw
Away Your Computer Speakers ) it is recommended that you have
the equalizers in flat
mode ,and use your home-stereo 's tone balancers. That's because every time
you extend the sound
for an amount of 3 db , you force your amplifier to provide the double
amount
of Watts RMS to your speakers,
which is dangerous for both the amplifier and the speakers.
Example:You own a home stereo which has an 100W
RMS amplifier and 120W RMS speakers ,you are safe ,right? Of course NO!
If you have the volume of your home-stereo at 90W RMS
for example ,and equalizers in flat
mode ,everything is alright,but if
you decide to increase the upper frequencies at +3 db
,then your tweeters will be hit by 180W RMS packets ,and then you can
say good-bye to them.
3. How do i understand if my speakers are in danger?
-If at a current level the bass is distorted and clipped
, that means that even the amplifier is having difficulties carrying the
big loads ,or your speakers are about to be toasted.
-If the "s"s that comes from the singers are heard
like "SSSsss" then your amplifier is again in trouble ,and the tweeters
are losing vitality.
4.For better sound it is recommended that the equalizers are in configured in a continuous line
Examples
+3 db ----_
_-----------
\
/
Right
+0 db--------\---__------/------------
-3 db
+3 db __
_------
__
_
Wrong
+0 db-----__--------------------
_____
-3 db
5. Finally it is recommended that you don't increase the pre-amplifier
level , especially if you have already increased any
equalizers.
6. And something to know: It is not the great levels of
sound that destroy the speakers , but the sudden drop-outs,
which occur when your amplifier is forced to provide
more power that it can really handle.
