The Future Destroyers Of The Avant-Garde...NOW!

Welcome to the re-issued version of this highly informative website.
New versions and updates will be coming as time permits!

LAST UPDATED:

NEWS:

Another update, unfortunately Throe Down is no more. There are many factors in this, but mostly it is due to lack of interest, lack of effort, lack of "progression," just LACK in general. We thank the 3 people who consistenly showed support, or pretended to show support...whatever. Members will continue on in other various projects...be sure to check the Whisk-Hutzel website for info on Pensil, Stimulusaurus, BC Druid, among many other creative artists. Keep checking the forum for news. This website will no longer be updated.

We thank you.

OLD NEWS:

2/23/03
- Throe Down have recently recorded a new demo, overtaking the first one in ferocity and quality. Just wait til you hear the final product!...which should be released at a show sometime in April at the Inferno Bar in Murfreesboro. Until then, those of you in Cookeville, TN can see us perform at the Wattenbarger Auditorium on the TTU Campus which will be on March 19th at 7:00.

We have a new member, which brings us to a quintet...on electric tuba, we are pleased to welcome, Angelo:

Also, since the new year, the band has been playing all new material with Jay on drums and Ryan on bass. Stimulusaurus has retired the turntables and switched to lead vokills. Pensil continues to do amazing shit on the guitar, trumpet, and whatever else he can get his hands on.

We want to thank the very few people who consistently show support in the evolution of creative music (you know who you are), everyone else can just fuck off!
(which is basically the entire Nashville/Murfreesboro area)

12/16/02 - Throe Down will be taking a break for the holidays as we all head our separate ways. However, there are big plans for the future months: Jay will be spending the bulk of January in seclusion creating new material for Throe Down and developing long overdue solo projects. February should find the band playing shows in the middle Tennessee area. March may bring about a mini-tour of the Northeast during spring break. Stay tuned.

We also now have a Discussion Board! Feel free to leave your thoughts.

I would highly recommend those of you interested in alternative forms of music to seek out any material by the New York NO WAVE bands of the late 70s. No Wave is essentially anti-music. Bands like James Chance & The Contortions, Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, D.N.A., Mars, Von LMO, Red Transistor, Theoretical Girls, Material, etc. all effectively illustrate the No Wave ideals of creating a music that totally destroys all the rules. Check out a great interview with Lydia Lunch (No Wave proponent, Teenage Jesus vocalist/guitarist, spoken word artist, writer, activist). The intellectually-minded Ms. Lunch talks about her thoughts on poetry, pornography, film and music.

"There’s nothing worse than political music, it’s a complete fucking bore."
-Lydia Lunch

I totally agree.

11/19/02 - Alright! Yay! An update!
Throe Down has taken a month long break, but will be back full force starting December 4th at Springwater in Nashville!

I would like to thank all of the kind (and some not-so-kind) people I met during my two days in Cookeville, TN for the Halloween party. I've been playing music for...what...10 years now and that Halloween party was the first time other people have really danced (released their inhibitions) to my music! Thank you, Shannon. Seeing the impact we had on these sympathetic people, has re-newed my faith in this band. I know now that, if we play at the right place for the right people, things can and will be great for everyone!...wait that doesn't sound like my usual cynical self....um....uh....fuck complacency!...there...that feels better!

Band Info and Recommended Links have been updated.

10/26/02 - MP3.com finally has our songs up! Go check it out at: www.mp3.com/throedown!!

Pensil is now in the band full-time. We gladly welcome his guitar de-construction.

Sports Planet (along w/ the Boro) have added us to their list of bands not welcomed back! And what do i have to say about that? No Fucking Loss! That place is worthless. There was one sympathetic person amidst the sea of frat boys and frat-boy-hanger-on-girls. I would like to thank that one friendly individual, whose name I have forgotten...sorry!
We were just too damn extreme...they had to physically pull the plug on us!

We will be running out of places to play in this area! Time to take our act on the road, perhaps.
"Why don't you tone it down a notch, so...maybe you won't get thrown out of the places you play at?" you ask?
We Answer: Fuck No!
10/17/02 - JUST ANNOUNCED---We will be playing at the Sports Planet on the Square in Murfreesboro on Friday, October 25th!

MP3.com is taking their sweet ass time to "authorize" our mp3 files...so, those aren't ready yet and the show on the 17th at the Muse was overbooked and we got lost in the shuffle...oh well...BUT...The Halloween party next week should be quite an event. Throe Down will take their costumes to another level for the occassion..."theatrical" blood has been purchased! Those interested in coming to the party, email, hideouslyhilarious@yahoo.com, for directions.

Let's take a stroll down memory-lane and talk about the Riot Grrrl feminist movement of the early-90s for a moment. This is one of the more important uprisings in music. When people think of feminism in music, most tend to think of Sarah McLachlan-type Lilith Fair passive feminism. Riot Grrrl is/was the polar opposite of this. D.I.Y. punk ethos were utilized to spread the message and the resulting music is fiercely intense and, at times, can be challenging to listen to. The leading proponents in the movement were bands such as, Bikini Kill, Heavens To Betsy, and Bratmobile. Their albums spoke of women's liberation by force. An "I'm as mad as hell and i'm not gonna take this anymore!," feeling spewed forth from every vocal utterance...which was usually a shrill, high-pitched scream. The music was minimal, but filled with rage and passion. Riot Grrrl bands are able to invoke a sense of raw power and emotion that few others (in any genre) can duplicate.

Here are a few Riot Grrrl/Feminist/Lesbionic albums i'd recommend:

Bikini Kill - CD Version of 1st 2 Records, Pussy Whipped
Bratmobile - Pottymouth
Heavens To Betsy - Calculated
The Need - s/t
Sleater-Kinney - s/t, Call The Doctor
Team Dresch - Personal Best

09/26/02 - We are playing a show on October 17th at the Muse in Nashville with Girl On Girl!
And Throe Down will also perform at a Halloween house party on October 29th in Cookeville, TN.
MP3s from the demo we recently recorded will be up in a few days on our MP3.com page.
In the meantime, you can download one of the songs from the demo right here, entitled...The Anesthesiologist.

Also, for those who may be interested, check out a great site on the legendary, Bettie Page!!!!!
Bettie is truly a phenomenon in the area of the female body as photographic art (not merely "porn")...projecting innocence and intelligence, while at the same time possessing a sense of unbridled sexuality.
Bettie Page is a true goddess!

The Bettie Page Shrine

09/16/02 - Many thanks to those that attended our performance at Sebastian's on the 14th!
Throe Down played one hell of a set.
Pure adrenaline, pure ferocity, pure speed...fuck structure, fuck tuning, fuck musical boundaries.
Throe Down destroys music! Join the revolution or eat our dust!

MUSIC IS BORING!!! ANNIHILATE IT!!!!

More shows will be coming soon in the Murfreesboro/Nashville area.

Stay Tuned!
