Edmonton: August 29, 1997; Edgefest

My best friend Katie and I got to edgefest at 5:00 and August 29, 1997, we were all ready to rock during silverchair. We couldn't believe our luck, we had been waiting to see silverchair for so long, and they just happened to be on the western leg of edgefest. We were the second group of people in line, the gates were supposed to open at 11:30, but they still weren't set up. At about 12, the gates were set up, and they opened them. My friends ran ahead to get right to the front, and I stayed behing with my bag. I managed to sneek in 2 camera's and six rolls of film. Well, The Philosipher Kings played, and the highlight of that was seeing Edwin (from I Mother Earth) watching them from backstage. After The PK's Ben came out to check his drums. We were screaming for his attention, and finally it was pretty quiet, and I screamed Ben Gillies, he looked over, and smiled at us! Dodgy played, they were pretty good, but maybe it was because I was so excited for silverchair. The 20 minutes between Dodgy and silverchair seemed like forever, when finally silverchair came out. They were playing slave, and Daniel was seriously 10 feet away. As silverchair came out, I threw on to the stage my sunglasses (it was katie's idea to do that) They played very well, it was kicking. The mosh pit during silverchair was brutal, it was the best it got all day. But I wasn't moshing, I was glued to the bar. They went through their regular set, plus Daniel sang a little song to Edmonton, the crowd freaked during that one. Then came isreal's son, I have to say, I have never had an experience that awesome in my entire life, during isreal's son, at the end of the song, (it was the last one they played), while screaming "Put your mother fucking hands in the air" Daniel picked up my glasses, and put them on, he wore them until the end of the set, then he chucked them across the stage. While he was wearing these glasses, he was keeled over, right in front of me. Yes, I had waited to see a silverchair concert for a long long time, and when it finally came, well, i have to say, it was better than i expected, and i expected alot. The rest of edgefest was all a blur for me, after silverchair, i left the front (got the security guards to pull me out) and i moshed and crowd surfed during the rest. Ya, it was rad, and i can't wait till they play edmonton again!
