Myrtle Beach: June 4, 1999

It took a few days but I finally had my parents convinced. They would be getting tickets for me to go see Silverchair "The Best Band in the World" in Myrtle Beach, SC. We go to the beach every year, but this time it was just so I could see them play at the House of Blues. We left our house, which is in central South Carolina, Thursday. It took us about 2 1/2 hours to reach the beach. I was totally siked. When Friday rolled around I was so happy. I got dressed and left the hotel around 7:00. It took about 30 mins to find it and we got in line. The doors were to open at 8:45, and they did. I wasn't sure how it was gonna be set up, so I was afraid I was gonna have bad seats. But when we went in we were able to get seats by the bar, which gave me a great view of the stage. I didn't know that they had a band that was gonna open for them but they did. The band was called Double (Vision or Wide): I'm not really sure who they were, but they were really good. The lead singer kept trying to get the crowd into it but he didn't do to well. Everyone was ready for Silverchair. When they had like 1 or 2 songs left the crowd started moving more and then the people started crowd surfing. They played from 9:30 until 10:15. The crowd started to get hyped up and we were all ready to see Silverchair. Finally the guy announced that they would be coming on stage soon. I guess they finally were on stage by 11:00. Their first song was Emotion Sickness directly followed by Israel's Son. They sounded great. Daniel didn't talk to the crowd for a while until he addressed "what a nice, friendly place" Myrtle Beach was. During the 1st part of the show I noticed that a girl had taken off her bra and threw it into the crowd. It flew back and forth everywhere until it was on stage by Chris. I'm not sure if he saw it or not but it was so funny. I was so happy they played Madman. That song has so much energy and the crowd really got into it. After Daniel did Tomorrow by himself Chris and Ben came back on stage. Ben was now wearing the bra that had been thown onto the stage and everyone loved it. Daniel finally took a minute to talk to the crowd again. He told everyone to say YES to everything rather tan NO. He said "if parents are asked if they tell their children about drugs--just say YES." "If Ben was asked to wear a bra on stage he was to say YES!" Then he asked the question I was waiting to hear "If someone asks you if you believe in Jesus--just say yes." He then asked the crowd and everyone yelled NO! He said "see you tell people to say yes and they say no, you are susposed to listen to the priest, I'm the priest." The he did the halle "f-en" luligh thing which was really cool. They kept on playing and now and then Daniel would start flicking people off. It looked like he kept mumbling to himself too, I'm still not sure what that was about. The crowd loved them and they played until around 12:30. They finished with a great performance of Satin Sheets and No Association. Their show was great. I was so happy I got to see them and now I'm trying to get tickets to WAVE FEST where they are rumored to be appearing at. If they are ever in your area I strongly urge you to go see them. They put on an excellent show because they aren't "fake" like most bands are today.
