Their first release in 1995, Frogstomp, was a huge success and they established a massive fan base all over the world. After a few years of touring and recording, silverchair released their second album Freak Show in 1997. Although it wasn't as successful as Frogstomp, it was still liked by many and sold thousands of copies. The guys showed us in Freak Show that they weren't just about ruff grunge sounds when they introduced more melodic orchestral tunes in the CD. It appeared that they were heading towards a more broader range of music with much diversity and that's just what they have done in their recent release Neon Ballroom.
In their 1999 release, silverchair has showed us their diversity and musical talent with 12 impressive tracks that are far more superior to those and their first two albums. From soft orchestral melodies to hard angry punk, this album has it all. The vintage hard silverchair sounds are still there with the agressive angry lyrics that Daniel Johns is known for, but it appears that silverchair have taken the more softer route and that they are exploring new ideas. They have also incorporated many electronical effects that we have not seen on the previous albums. Neon Ballroom has already enjoyed much success in many countries reaching the top 10 in its debut. If you haven't bought the CD yet, I highly recommend it. It's very impressive and I believe it's silverchair's best work yet!
