Salem: April 12 & August 23, 1997

Ben first features his new mohawk at Salem on August 23

So far, in 1997, I've been to two silverchair concerts. Both were in Salem, Or., and both kicked ass. I went to both with my four best friends.

The first was on April 12. It was held in a smaller place (about the size of a high school gym). The opening acts were Local-H and Handsome. They were both pretty good. I was few rows from the front, and to Chris' side of the stage. I was just on the edge of the mosh pit, so it was just violent enough to get me sweaty and dislocate my finger, but I could still pay attention to the concert. Silverchair put on a damn fine show. Ben had his newly shaved head, and some time during the show got up to the mike to sing happy birthday to his "old fart" dad. Another cool part was when Tony Iomii(probably spelled wrong?) played with them. After the show, I got Handsome's autographs, and went for Local-H's CD. Then preceded to lose my friends for about half an hour, which really sucked 'cause we had to drive the 5 hours back home that night. I cant remember that much else about that concert because it was a long time ago.

The most recent 'Chair concert I've been to was on Aug 23. The sound wasnt as loud as I prefer(couldn't feel it in my body), but they played really well. It was in an outside Stadium, and we all had to stay in our seats, but that was OK w. me b/c I was in the fron row DIRECTLY in front of Daniel. The boys were really lively for this show. I was glad to see them come on because the opening act really sucked.I think there name was Marigold. Daniel had his recently dreaded hair, and talked a lot more than he did in the other show. He told us about how he met the guys from M.Manson, and how they said Salem crowds rock. I think I set that one off, because I was right in front of him and wearing a Manson shirt and black lipstick. Some people in the crowd behind us were holding up the Australian flag, but it was backwards, so he sang them directions on how to correct it. That was cute. He also tried to play our anthem on his guitar. It didn't seem to be working for him too well, so then he just started fucking around on it. At then end of the encore, they all just were going nuts for about 10 min, and Daniel topped that off by vigoruously humping the big speaker behind him (that really got some females screaming). Sorry I cant remember the set list too well. I know they played, Pop Song F.U.R., Isreales son, Cemetary, Slave, Freak, Abuse Me, No Association, and Suicidal Dream. I'm not sure what else. After the show Ben came out to sighn autographs. That would have been reall cool except for so many of the screaming girls (its at times like those when my very own gender disgusts me). Any way, the boys have never dissapointed me with their shows. I'll be looking forward to seeing them again. I must admit, before that first concert I wasnt the hugest Silverchair fan(I didnt hate them or anything, I just wasnt that wild about them), but ever since then I've been hooked to their music!
