San Francisco: May 13, 1997

I recently attended the Silverchair show in San Francisco, California. It was the last stop of their North American tour. It was a lot of fun.

The first band to play was Automatic. I had never heard any of their music before, but I enjoyed their show. The lead singer talked to the audience a lot but I couldn't understand him because of his accent. Even another one of the band members told him to slow down because we couldn't understand. Then after a short intermission, Local H came out. During one of their songs, the singer announced that Ben Gillies was the one playing the tamborine for them. Then Ben looked up at us with a huge grin on his face. They played for a while longer and then announced that the next song would be their final song. Then they began playing Freak. Then they stopped and said "No really, this is our last song." They had mentioned that the last song was going to be special...now I found out what they meant. During their last song 2 male strippers came out, a police officer and a fireman.

Finally it was time for Silverchair. They opened with Slave. They sounded great!! They played all of their normal songs (not in order):

Freak

Abuse Me

Tomorrow

Faultline

Roses

Slave

Findaway

Cemetery (Daniel played this one alone onstage)

The Door

No Association

Suicidal Dream

Madman

Israel's Son

They left out The Closing, but they included the beginning to Local H's song Bound for the Floor. Israel's Son was the final song and during it the roadies came out dressed as Mickey Mouses. They attacked the band with silly string.

After Israel's Son, Ben was the first to leave the stage. Then he was followed by Chris. Daniel stayed on the stage to climb around on the speakers and drums for a few more minutes. Then he left too.

This concert was great! The mosh pit never got very wild though. My friends and I had a ton of fun!

I went to the concert on May 13 in San Francisco. I know you already have a review for this concert, but the other person left out a few really important things.

First of all: during silverchair's performance, one of the songs they played was Black Sabbath's unforgettable song "Paranoid". Daniel wasn't playing but I think it was the lead singer from Local H that was playing the guitar part. Daniel ran around the stage singing and then got onto one of the really big speakers close to the mosh pit and sang. After that, he got off, ran to the drum platform, and proceded to jump on the guitar player's shoulders. It seemed like the guitar player was having a bit of trouble trying to keep playing because he kept pushing Daniel's legs away from the guitar. Of course during all the songs, Daniel used all of his favorite guitars, and none of that really changed, but the concert was really awesome and I hope that when the next album comes out, then I can go to another concert. Good luck to the band in the future, and congradulations on the Spawn soundtrack.

Tuesday May 13 1997 The Warfield--San Francisco At 5:30 my friend met me at my ballet because I had class. We took the bus to the Warfield, and it took us like 20 minutes to find it but when we got there there was a line of about 50 people and we got in and waited for the doors to open at 7. We went in and there was this poster of the guys, Ben and Chris on the outside and Dan in the middle leaning over with his arms up, and i asked the frisker, "how can i get one of those posters?" and she said that i had to know someone who worked here. They checked my bag and i had to be escorted to the coat check. Then me and Liz went inside and stood around near the stage with most of the other people and I saw my friend Sarah from school, so she came over and we were talking and stuff and her sister is good friends with the band!! (After the show Sarah and her sis went to the chair's hotel room and partyed with em!) We waited around for a long time and finally the lights dimmed and automatic came on. At first I thought they were cool becaues they had an australian accent, but the band sucked. Nobody was really moshing, just shoving and stuff. The only cool/funny part about that was the guy from Automatic was like "Daniel will be out soon" and all the teenies screamed, and then he said "to suck dick". Local H came on and they're pretty cool. For the last song these two male strippers came on dressed as a cop and firefighter and did their thing. Then we waited more and they played the Beastie Boys song "you gotta fight for your right to party" and the whole crowd was singing while they set up. FINALLY the circus music came on and they all entered stage left. The pit went crazy with the first riff of Slave, and the lights were green. It was so fun moshing! But some people were pulling my hair so I just elbowed them. I lost Liz, but it was cool. I continued to be the only girl in the pit not convulsing because, "Ohhhmigodd! Daniel LOOKED at me!!!" and dumb shit like that. I hit every girl who said something like that. The concert was so fun. At one point Dan said, "We're not going to play anymore.. we're all just gonna have sex." and everyone screamed. I moshed and jumped and "put my hands in the fucking air" so much I must've lost 5 pounds. After Dan played Cemetery solo, Ben came back on wearing a bra. Then during one song three guys with stuffed masks of Mickey Mouse and Goofy came on and were messing with the band. The guys ripped them apart and there was stuffing all over. Dan said "Those two nice guys that came out when Local H was playing was our present to you!". In the middle of Israel's Son, some guys brought Dan out a can of silly string and he sprayed it first in his own mouth, then at the crowd (i got some!) Then it was over and the crew was packing up the stuff. Songs they played (not in order): Slave*Freak*Abuse Me*No Association*Cemetery*The Door*Roses*Israel's Son* Tomorrow* Faultline* Pure Massacre* Suicidal Dream* Findaway After the show we were standing around and this guy gave me that poster i wanted! I was so happy. Then we went to the Stage door and waited for the band. I was standing 2 inches away from the bus, then i look up and Ben is lookng out the window! He opened it and about 10 of us were talking to him. He said he was glad to go back to australia and that he loves us too. I asked him "are you gonna be back soon?" and he said "yeah" and i said "when" he "ow-gist" me "what??" he "oww gist" me "ohhh, AUGUSt!!" and i said "Don't forget me!!" And pointed to my teeshirt that said HOSTESS on it. I got pictures of Ben in the bus and Chris loading stuff onto the truck, but none of Dan. Well I'll just wait til owgist.
