5/30/02: SAD NEWS FOR MARILYN MANSON FANS:

Marilyn Manson Reveals New Lineup Marilyn Manson moves forward with a dramatic change in style, attitude and personnel by announcing the departure of longtime friend and bassist Twiggy Ramirez. "I have spent eight months transforming this band and our new songs into an unstoppable juggernaut, and sadly Twiggy wasn't able to make himself a part of it," says Manson. "Unfortunately, I feel that Marilyn Manson, as a lifestyle, is not where his heart is. So I have decided to let him go his own way, otherwise it wouldn't be fair to us, the music, or especially to the fans. Although you can never replace a best friend like Twiggy, this album and new lineup will redefine anyone's idea of what Marilyn Manson is capable of." Marilyn Manson, John 5, M.W. Gacy and Ginger Fish are joined by bassist Tim Skold. The Golden Age of Grotesque, which is under the production team of Manson, Skold and Ben Grosse is near completion and expected this Fall on Interscope Records

9/13/01: This is the message that Marilyn Manson left on the Official Site about the tragedy that happened on the 11th:

WAR
-------------------------------------------------------
We all knew this day would come. My best wishes go out to those families who lost their loved ones. I also have friends in NY and of course here in LA that I am still concerned about. The only thing we can do now is to stick together.

If it takes something this terrible to unite us, so be it.

America hasn't always stood by me, but I will surely stand by America. Let's never forget how lucky we are to have so much freedom.

8/17/01: Marilyn Manson Accused Of Rubbing Crotch On Man's Head
Singer faces charges of criminal sexual misconduct as well as assault and battery.

Marilyn Manson has been charged with assaulting a security guard by allegedly rubbing his genital area on the man's head during a concert in Clarkston, Michigan.

The shock rocker is being accused of felony fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct along with misdemeanor assault and battery. If convicted, he could face more than two years in prison.

Manson was performing at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston on July 20 when he allegedly approached 25-year-old security guard Joshua Keasler from behind while rubbing his own genital area, Oakland Country prosecutor David G. Gorcyca said in a statement Thursday (August 16). After spitting on Keasler's head, a G-string-clad Manson wrapped his legs around the guard and rubbed his genital area on Keasler's head and neck, the statement said.

"Manson's actions far exceed any freedom of expression or artistic license," Gorcyca said in the statement. "His conduct was in no way a choreographed part of the performance. These acts are sexual and physical assaults on an unsuspecting individual whose job was to protect the performers. This disgusting display and conduct cannot go unrecognized, and for those reasons these charges were issued."

Gorcyca said the two-count complaint would likely be filed in the 52-2 District Court in Clarkston on Friday.

Manson's lawyer and his spokesperson at Interscope Records had not heard of the charges when contacted Thursday afternoon. Neither would comment until looking into it further.

6/21/01: Marilyn Manson and Denver:

The anti- and pro-Marilyn Manson camps squared off in Denver Wednesday, the night before his controversial performance at Ozzfest's Mile High City stop.

Manson originally planned to skip the show — he hasn't played Denver since the 1999 massacre at nearby Littleton, Colorado's Columbine High School (gunmen Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris were falsely reported to be fans of the band). When Manson backtracked and said he would indeed play Denver, a local youth pastor asked the band to cancel the show, calling the singer's message one of "hate."

Jason Janz, the pastor who heads anti-Manson group Citizens for Peace and Respect, challenged Manson to a debate during his group's rally on the Colorado capitol steps. Manson said previously he would debate Janz, but that his schedule didn't permit it during the Denver Ozzfest stop, according to his label publicist.

"Our theme was one of hope, that there are alternatives to hate," Janz said Thursday (June 21) before going to Mile High Stadium to hand out literature to Ozzfest attendees. He estimated the crowd at 400. Police did not make official crowd number estimates, according to Denver police detective Mary Thomason, and reported no incidents at the rallies.

"I have studied the past 60 years of popular teen culture and have come to the conclusion that we are losing our kids," Janz said, according to a written copy of his speech. "If Marilyn Manson can walk into our town, promote hate, violence, suicide, death, drug use and Columbine-like behavior, I can say, 'Not without a fight.'

"We don't think Manson caused Columbine, but he encourages and legitimizes Columbine-like behavior," Janz said Thursday. "We don't support censorship, but we're in favor of citizenship, encouraging concert promoters to be responsible in what they present to the community."

Janz's efforts — which drew the support of Colorado Gov. Bill Owens and Rep. Tom Tancredo, R-Colo. — spawned the creation of an opposition group, Citizens for Freedom of Choice, which also held a rally at the capitol Wednesday.

"We just wanted to show that Jason Janz does not speak for our entire community," event organizer Carrieanne Andrews said. Andrews, a mother of three, said she and other organizers resented "being told how to be good parents." The Andrews-organized rally was held prior to the start of Janz's gathering.

Andrews estimated the crowd at the Citizens for Freedom of Choice rally at 150, a mix of "goth kids, headbangers and older fans." Their rally featured speeches by organization members and other freedom-of-speech advocates. The organizers also read letters from anti-censorship activists Dave Marsh of Rock & Rap Confidential and members of Rock Out Censorship.

"Instead of telling him to shut up, the censors ought to listen to Manson," read Marsh's letter. "Listen once and try to imagine the lives of the people who find comfort and enjoyment in Manson's music. Then maybe they would behave less like fearful, superstitious primitives and begin helping undo some of the damage people like themselves have caused."

6/18/01: In a new issue of RollingStone magazine it confirms that Marilyn Mansons collaboration on the Eminem track "The Way I am" will appear on a reissue of the Marshall Mathers LP on August 20th.

6/17/01: Marilyn and Moulin Rouge
The Australian issue of Empire magazine reported in May/June that Marilyn Manson was confirmed to contribute to Director Baz Lurman's new exotic flick " Moulin Rouge" starring Nicole Kidman and Ewan McGregor. When the tracklisting was finally revealed months ago, Marilyn Manson was no where to be found. According to the June 18th issue of People weekly, Mason did contribute to the soundtrack, but someone not to friendly intervened.

"Moulin Rouge had Courtney Love seeing red," reports the magazine. "Director Baz Luhrmann beseeched the rocker for the rights to use "Smells like teen spirit," the Nirvana tune by her late husband Kurt Cobain, in the splashy musical. He even paid Love a visit and a hefty premium ($125,000) for the grunge anthem. But then Luhrmann had Marilyn Manson record the song for the musical montage at the start of the movie. Bad Move. Unbeknownst to Luhrmann, Love and Manson have disliked each other since their joint tour two years ago. When Love found out the Manson was Luhrmann's choice, she flipped out, reminding him of the performer-approval clause in her contract. An unknown band hastily re-recorded the song six days before the movies L.A. and New York openings."

3/26/01: Supreme Court Ruling on Marilyn Manson shirts:

Former high school student, Nicholas J. Boroff was banned from Van Wert High School in Van Wert, Ohio, in August 1997 for wearing a Marilyn Manson T-shirt. On Monday, March 19, 2001, the court, without comment, turned down the Ohio student's argument that school officials could not keep him from wearing T-shirts depicting Manson.

School officials were able to ban the shirts because they were determined to be "vulgar, offensive and contrary to the educational mission of the school," the appeals court said, noting that school officials submitted evidence of the group's "pro-drug persona."

In the appeal acted on Monday, Boroff's lawyers said that while there was evidence that Manson had promoted drug use and Satanism, that did not mean school officials could ban students from wearing his name and picture.

1/8/01: Info on the unpcoming video for the "The Fight Song":

Marilyn Manson has finished filming the video for "The Fight Song," the second single from Holy Wood (In the Shadow of the Valley of Death), at an abandoned Los Angeles football field, according to a spokesperson at Interscope Records.

The video, directed by Wiz and Marilyn Manson, features a team of jocks battling a team of goth rockers — a possible commentary on the 1999 Columbine High School tragedy in Littleton, Colorado, where outcast teens Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris gunned down several of their fellow students before killing themselves.

Manson's music initially was blamed by some for inciting the tragedy, though later it turned out that neither student had been a fan of Manson, born Brian Warner.

The spokesperson at Interscope, Manson's label since his career began in 1994, said she was unaware of any Columbine parallels in the video.

6/26/00: Manson is reportedly mulling over an offer from the tour's promoters, according to a report on MTV online. The third annual hard-rock fest is expected to launch sometime this fall. Other acts being considered include Orgy, Deadsy, and Papa Roach. Contrary to earlier reports, past headliners Korn and Limp Bizkit will not join the tour. Korn, however, may make special appearances along the way.

In other Manson news, the "Antichrist Superstar" made a rather odd political statement recently. After dining at the trendy Cafe Des Artistes in Hollywood, Manson noticed President Clinton's autograph on a wall bearing numerous celebrity signatures. According to US Weekly, the singer proceeded to draw a sperm pointing at the signature along with the word "commie" printed in big letters. Clinton must be a bigger tipper than Manson as restaurant employees washed away Manson's graffiti soon after he left.
