I've been in love with this group for some time. I love all the music and I would be very happy to see them in the U.S. again. I was going to go to Milwaukee in March but I didn't ask for work off on time so I could drive out there. I would be so happy if they came to Minneapolis, Minnesota. I reckon they were much better live than in the studio. 'Noise' is the only listenable live album I have, but it's fantastic. Their studio albums sound a bit commercial with double tracked vocals etc, but I admit I've only heard the recorded stuff from th eighties on 'The Collection'.

My youth, Big Airdy, Mr Dorward and the Pollok Krew, was spent seeing the Damned whenever they played in Glasgow. Saw them at the old Glasgow Apollo theatre in 79, Glasgow Tifneys in 1980, Nightmoves 1981. Best gig I saw was the Glasgow Tifneys gig they played, with the ruts supporting. The singer of the ruts had died several nights before. With a tempory replacement singer, the ruts played an unbelievable and emotional gig, as did the Damned. Thanks for all the wonderful memories!

1. I am looking for Damned recordings from the Brian James period/the 79 US tour/any recordings with any exceptional merit/gigs with lots of Captains Chaos! 2. Well, "Music For Pleasure" is'nt really my favorite Damned album, but come on, that record is a completling accurate document of it's era. In the last survey it was completly ignored. This to me is an outrage. There is allot of mystery behind that e a was the band, I find it to be quite a intriging lp (dig that cover!). I bought that album when I was 16 (I'm in my early 20's now), and I was quite unaware of it's failure. I fell in love with the damned thing (p.t.p.). I think allot of the problem w th "Music for Pleasure" receiption was the bands attitude, which is still the same today. By the way, does Brian James consider that recording crap? I'd really like to know. Sure, "Music For Pleasure" is a recording of a unhappy self-destructive band, it sounds of if they learned to songs 5 minutes before they recorded them (which may in this case be very well true), but it is also the sound of a band with venomis courage & esteem. They knew they were almighty & untouchable. If fact, the Damned were literally untouched by the industry they so much wanted to be part of. I'm glad the Damned never made it that far. I'd hate for them to be admired the same way Areosmith are, like a comodidy (like coca-cola). The Damned are among the comomn people, the are a reflection of their epoch. And they have yet, to became a relic, or an oldies band, they are current artists. And "Music For Pleasure" was exactly that in Nov. 1977. This is Brian James last contribution to the Damned. Brian James (you know, 6% uy?) is the most under-rated & under appreciated song writer, guitarist in all of popular British music (yeah i know, The Damned are patheticly under-rated, very sad), and he is a undisputible GOD. "Music For Pleasure"?, without being critical, give it a second listen. Don't focus on what it is'nt, enjoy what it is (that includes Dave, Rat, Capt.,Brian & Lu) With my utmost respect for the DAMNED JM

February 9, 1998, 9:30 Club, Washington D.C. My first show, and what a show it was!! Great music, flying trash cans, and Captain Sensible´s bum! Someone tried to spit on Dave Vanian and the bassist looked like she would tear that persons tongue out. Defi itely something you would not see at a Hanson show!

I saw The Damned at the end of their tour and they looked tired. The mix was terrible, because they roadies didn't have time to do a sound check. I couldn't hear the Captain or Dave too well, but overall the performance kept me interested and excited. I o ly wished I had seen them at the House of Blues. I was told it was awesome. Also the couple we sat with at the Galaxy, drop me a line if you read this. We meant to get you our numbers so we could trade Damned stories. I saw them 12 years ago in Salt Lake City with the late-era line up with Rat and Dave with the Phantasamagoria look, frigging awesome show. I saw the Damned in New York in Feburary and it was an awesome show. Being the first time to ever see the band live, they played some great music from the old Damned to the Damned today. We had wished Brian James was there but all and all it was one of he greatest 2 hours of my life.

I just saw The Damned @ The House of Blues in Hollywood and they totally kicked ass. I felt like getting into the slam pit, but I don't think my back would have been able to handle it. Patricia Morrison was incredible and a total goth babe. Can't wait to see them again.

Went to the friday 13th gig in st.Pete,FL and Sensible had a sprained ankle so he wasnt his goofy elf, poor guy. Got to meet Captain Sensible and Dave Vanian when they played a terrific show here in Baltimore. Lucky for the rest of us it wasn't crowded at all (coz Baltimore is notoriously lacking of taste) and I got the most wonderful kiss from Mr. Vanian. I had bee waiting for that moment for over ten years. They didn't do Rabid, though and I was really looking forward to that.

I just arrived home from the afore-mentioned st louis show. After the Captain came out in the blue undies, he came out on a pink dress... and eventually took off the blue undies and gave them to someone in the audience. I got to see the Captain's bum... a ong other things. He was dancing on a table after the show, and after talking to him for a bit, he invited me backstage, where he spilled beer on me, rubbed ice on my forehead and shoved a peeled banana up his butt... what a great guy! He and some others roceeded to sing a bit of Wham!, talk about the queen, and generally crack up everyone who was back there... I just got home from a Damned show in St.Louis and cannot begin to explain what a wonderful time I had. The Captain returned to the stage after the first intermission wearing nothing except bikini briefs, what a sight that was! The only dissapointment w s the fact that they did not play Born to Kill (my personal all-time favorite Damned song) highlights were New Rose, Love Song and their encore Smash it Up. I plan on being the first in line to buy tickets if/when they return to St. Louis.

this is the only band from the uk that i like at all (except motorhead), and i totally love them. the exploited were just lame imagery and knee jerk reaction psuedo politics. sex pistols and the clash were just like the rolling stones to me. there was not ing special with either of them. but the DAMNED! there is not a way that these guys could fuck up a record. the animal rights movement that they support is very dear to me. the young ones was the greatest bbc production ever, glad to have the episode on t pe.

Fantastic show at House of Blues. Actually got backstage, and met them all. Everyone looks great, and were very friendly. Captain sang "Happy Talk" to my girlfriend as he lifted her into his arms, and placed her into the garbage can...she was in heaven. ure Sensible.

I finally got to see them last night at the Starfish roon (and meet them)they did a superb set. even though Rat was no in the line up, they still cooked. I am very fucking grateful that I was raised in the punk scene, Il have never looked at the world the same since 1997. thanks for the night. As far as I am concerned the Damned along with Joy Division & early Killing Joke remain to be a very important bands. Sincerely Jeffrey

I saw them here in Tempe, AZ on 2/22 for the first time in 10 years and they were even better than before. Managed to stay a couple of feet away from the Captain all night despite being kicked in the head a few times -- it was worth it. Even better than t e pink dress and blonde wig was when they came off!
