Full name:
Ed Howell
How did you meet Freddie?
I played a gig to launch my album and Fred came along at the invitation
of my manager - david Minns.
How did you feel when Freddie said he would help you with the song
"Man from Manhattan"?
I was delighted + flattered that he liked the song enough to want to
produce it.
How did Brian May get involved?
Fred wanted Brian to play the guitar solo
How many days did it take to record "Man from Manhattan"?
It took a week to record which for me was a long time but Queen were
renonned for clocking up studio time
Did you work on any other material with Freddie?
Not in the studio, although he came to my flat occasionally + made
suggestions for songs I was working on
Did you keep in touch with Freddie after the recording session?
On occasions - such as his birthday + we'd have lunch sometimes or
go to a gig.
Or Brian?
No.
What have you been up to over the last 17 years?
Writing songs, some which have been recorded by other people - doing gigs
(3 piece arcoustic) + generally doing musk to make a living
What did you think of Freddie when you first met him and when you worked with him?
When I first met him I was struck by the energy he put out, he had a charismatic aura
- he was great to work with - diligent + meticulous - he meant business + loved music.
Do you like Queen and Freddie's music, if so what are your favourites?
I'm not the biggest Queen fan although I admire their work. Killer Queen
is my fave Queen song
Are you going to record more material?
Yes, I'm currently working on an album
Do you have any plans to tour?
Not presently
Can you tell us about the BUD records label, apparently you formed it?
Rob Ayling from Voiceprint tracked me down + we formed BUD records to release
"Manhattan" after obtaining licensing rights from Warner Bros. I want BUD
to have a life of its own with the impetus of M.F.M.
Who have you enjoyed working with the most over the years?
Difficult to say, I've enjoyed working with different people for
different reasons
Can you tell us anything else that would be of interest?
I'm excited at the prospect of having an outlet for my songs + not
being at the mercy of corporate record companies.
Thanks Eddie for answering our questions.
youre - welcome.
