First of all: what is IRC?
I.R.C. stands for Internet Relay Chat. It means that through this system you can "talk" (read:type) with lots of people ONLINE. And that means: you type a sentence and within seconds after pressing "Enter", others read it and type their comments, again after 1 or more seconds you can read it again! It's like being on a telephoneline with a group of people, the difference is that you type what you want to say!
Interesting thing is that the group of people can get quite large (20, 30 or even more!) and that those people are all over the world! I have talked with people overseas and you don't even notice a difference in respond compared with people from a country nearby!

To get on IRC you have to get connected to an IRC server. This is a computer that controls the communication between you and other people on the IRC network. There are a lot of servers. There are even different IRC networks! If you want to get contact with Queen fans, then try the IRC network. Here's a list of some of the servers you can connect to:
How can I get a IRC programme?

If you have a MAC, then download the IRCLE programme, for that you can go to IRCLE Homepage.
If you use a complete other system than PC or MAC, then I advice you to search on the Internet/Usenet for any info on IRC Client progammes. Good luck searching!

On an IRC network you will find channels. Each channel contains a group of people chatting about a specific subject. The channel name is most of the time also the subject! There are thousands of channels, you can download a list of them using MIRC/IRCLE....
THE QUEEN CHANNEL: Ofcourse there is a channel about Queen! The name is #QUEEN. You can get on the channel easily: First start MIRC/IRCLE and connect to a server. Then use the menu to join the #QUEEN channel or type in the "status" window the following: /join #queen
On the channel are ofcourse lots of fans. Some of them are regular visitors and are called The Queen Channel Family. You can be a member of that group!
On the recommended servers above you can also find the channel #freddiemercury. THE QUEEN FANCLUB also has it's own regular visited chatroom! You can got there by
connecting to the server named: CHAT.PLANETZ.NET , then join #queenfanclub . You can also reach this channel through your browser. Go to: queenworld.com and click on "CHAT". A JAVA script will
load and after typing a nickname and clicking on "connect", you'll be in!
