First of all: what is a Mailing List?
Well, it's simply a computerprogramme that sends e-mail to everybody who's e-mail address is in a list used by the programme. The programme has his own e-mail address. Any mail send to it will be send farther on to all members of the list.
If you want to be a member then you can simply send an e-mail to the programme and you will receive any e-mail which is received by the programme (also called Mailing List) and send to all members.

What happens when you become a member of the Queen Mailing List? Well, you will receive approx. 20-25 e-mails from Queen fans EACH DAY!!! After reading you can respond to any of the e-mail and send it to the QMS. The QMS will send it then farther on to about 700 members! Some of those members might respond to YOUR e-mail, send their respond to the QMS which you will receive then. Thus creating a discussion world wide!!!

The Queen Mailing Service (QMS) Subscription Information

The QMS is a list devoted to discussing the band Queen, their music, the members, and related solo projects. We also have an extensive archive of lyrics, articles, discographies and lots of other information. The QMS is intended primarily as a discussion and information group, not as a marketplace.

The Queen Mailing Service is available in two formats, a regular message by message list or in a digest format in which messages are saved up and sent out as a single message when the file reaches a certain size.

There are advantages to both methods. The digest format is especially good for people who don't want as many messages in their mail box to go through or for people who pay for their mail by the message.
