Well, this is similar to
the cover of Oasis' long awaited third album will look like. The cover
for the album was shot in a photo shooting in Herts, England. The cover
is comprised of several odd objects with hidden meanings. Not all are known
as yet but what is known is listed below. Oasis spokesman,
Jonny Hopkins, said
"It's
no secret the band are huge beatles fans. But people can read what they
want into the images. We want to keep a certain mystique about them so
aren't saying much"
A pal of the band said
"They
see this album as their Sgt. Pepper which is legendary for its sleeve design.
They wanted to put in lot of Bealtes symbols. Everything in the picture
is there for some reason."
Noel stands at the back
of the photo, he is peering through a telescope at a giant globe, this
is just as Ringo Starr did in a scene from The Beatles' Magicical Mystery
video. The movie also features Ivor Cutler, now signed to Oasis' label
Creation Records. The globe is standing on a speaker with a guitar proped
up infront of it. It's not known wether or not this
has any meaning.
Bonehead stands behind the pool holding a guitar which is in the shape of a key. This probably has some meaning, supposedly relative to The Beatles but this is not known either.
Alan White is sat on a chair in front of an abacus and behind a station clock. The clock reads 9:03 (in some photos it reads 9:04), this is thought to either be the time that the album will be released or it just has no meaning. A station clock was in The Beatles film 'A Hard Day's Night'. The signifficance of the abacus is not known.
There is a calender in front of the pool with the date reading September 3. There were some important events on this day, it was the day that John Lennon and Yoko Ono left Britain for good to live in New York in 1971, it's also the day that World War II began in 1939. On the actual cover the date is 26th August, the release date.
The Rolls Royce in the pool is quite like the one that John Lennon owned in the 60's. The number plate reads SYO 724F, this is the actual number plate that was on a police van that featured on the front of The Beatles' album Abbey Road. Abbey Road was where Oasis recorded some of the songs for this album. The Rolls in the pool also makes reference to the former 'The Who' drummer, Keith Moon, who died on a drugs overdose and was framed for driving his Rolls into a swimming pool
The telephone box in the swimming pool makes a reference to where The Beatles hid in their film 'A Hard Day's night' to escape a horde of fans.
The parking metre in the pool is linked with The Beatles' song 'Lovely Rita' which is all about a traffic warden.
The old gramaphone which is next to Liam refers to The Beatles' parent record company of Parlaphone, EMI.
The house, Stocks Hotel Golf and Country Club, is like John Lennon's mansion in Tittenhurst, near Ascot, Berks, where he filmed the Imagine video.
Liam sits astride an £1,800 scooter like the ones in The Who's Mod movie Quadrophenia.
Also, out of the shot, is
a garish white television set this is similar to the one used in The Who's
rock opera Tommy.
