>Obviously, Jason's death had a big impact on the band... what is Pennywise >going to do now? We're still trying to accept Jason's death, it's not real yet. Jason is the last person I would ever expect to commit suicide. It was a tragic mistake. So there's a lot of confusion right now. I guess you'd call it denial, but I don't know. Jason wrote songs about suicide like "come out fighting" and how we lose a part of ourselves when someone close dies. Right now we're just dealing with that huge loss. Jason was great person and a true friend. We're just going to try to carry on his spirit with the band. >Do you still plan on releasing your next album in January? The release date for the new album will be february or march now. We couldn't book any studio time in Oct, at Total Access where we record so it got pushed back a little. >What are your musical influences? Mine are Black Flag, Bad Religion, Descendents, TSOL, Minor Threat, Circle Jerks, The whole So. Cal. thing. I grew up listening to it and I still do. Fletcher's are the same; he likes S.O.A. a lot too. >What are your favorite bands out there today? Favorite bands today. All the epitaph bands. 311, Jawbreaker, Unwritten Law, Blink 182, Sprung Monkey, 98 Mute. The new Sublime album is incredible. >What are your attitudes towards drugs and alcohol and have they >changed at all since Jason's death? yes my attitudes towards drugs have changed since Jason's death. We want to purge our town of scumbag coke dealers. I hate drugs. They destroy people. Drugs killed Jason and Brad from Sublime. But you don't need to wear your sobriety on your sleeve or the back of your hand, or scream at people who drink. Just do it for yourself. The Straight Edge movement is a good thing, as long as people don't become fascist about it. >Who is the new bassist and how did you come about choosing him? Randy Bradbury was Jason's bass teacher. When I was out of the band for a year, jason sang and they got randy to play bass, that's why he's on a lot of the songs from "unknown Road" His tracks sounded so good, we didn't want to mess up what we had. When Jason decided to leave the band to deal with his alcohol problem, we called Randy to fill-in for him on tour. We had planned on getting Jason back and moving Randy to 2nd guitar when Jason died. >What is your favorite Pennywise song and why? My favorite Pennywise song is "Wouldn't it Be Nice" or "Bro Hymn" Just because they kind of represent the idealism that our band is all about; wanting the best from life and friendship. >How did you get to be signed on Epitaph? We did the theologian EP "A Word from the Wise" and a college DJ; Vernon from KXLU liked it. He interviewed us and hooked us up with Brett, who only had B.R., NOFX, Insted and Down By Law, on the label at the time, we gave him a tape of our new stuff and he signed us. >What are your feelings about the Offspring leaving the label? I wish they would have stayed, that's all I can say.
